A game deserving of the Labor of Love award. Hats off to Sidetrack games.

Sure, the game can be funny and enjoyable at times, even with the limited selection of maps (which have enough randomization to keep you engaged for a while).

HOWEVER, it's now the second time I've lost my entire savefile due to a crash after finishing a mission. Beware about playing this game with anything unstable. Thankfully I've only lost 20 hours of progress, but others have lost their 100 hour saves from random BSODs or the like.

I'll change this review to a positive standing whenever the devs fix this ♥♥♥♥.

Early Access Review
Project Zomboid is, surprisingly, a very good game, despite its simple graphics. The avaliable mechanics present in the game allow you to have infinite fun and possibilities to pan out your playtime. Although it is not a game I would enjoy alone, playing with friends really adds up to the experience and replayability.

The map is exceedingly massive, with lots of locations to explore and clear out from the zomboid infestation. It is clear the developers put a lot of effort into making the environment seem run down and abandoned.

However, there are some caveats. First, you take a very long time to perform ANY action given you can't speed up time (which will be the case if you're playing with friends). There are mods to circumvent this, but speeding up time in multiplayer should really be a vanilla feature. Second, the lack of enjoyment once you've reached the endgame. And third, the absence of frequent updates. Seriously, Indie Stone, you've had 10 years to come out of Early Access and even with the massive multiplayer update you are STILL in an "early" stage? I'm not buying it. Something shady must be going on over there.

TL:DR: Game is good, with friends. Gameplay is slow and gets tedious once in a while, but you'll enjoy the game for the most part.

After playing the game for two months and waiting for an update that did not deliver, I'm done with it, until they add enough content for it to be worth playing.

I bought the gold edition as a pre-order (that's 90€, btw, NOT cheap), and played during the three day early access period before the floodgates opened to the base edition players. It's safe to say I've never ever seen such a drop in the active player count of a game greater than the one this game suffered.

As it seems to be tradition with Starbreeze, they never get things right the first time. Servers went down for MULTIPLE DAYS, and when that was fixed, people started taking notice of the awful progression system. You don't get experience for completing missions, you don't get experience for getting away with more money, no. Instead, the game forces onto you a challenge-based leveling mechanic which, while for the first few levels is manageable, will make you unable to progress any further than level ~60, which is when you'll have to start grinding away the tedious and boring challenges in maps that are incredibly simple compared to Payday 2's.

TL:DR: Game is not worth buying at all in its current state. Wait until the reviews say otherwise, or more maps are added. Some may say that "oh, Payday 2's launch back in 2013 was disastrous too, give it some time", but that's no excuse for a game being this undercooked at launch by a studio with YEARS of experience by now.

Update 1: Their current approach to updating the game is to provide band aid-like fixes to current problems instead of replacing the systems entirely. Updates come once a month, it has been 8 MONTHS since the game's release and they have only added three new heists, two being ports from the previous game. As many players put it, the game is missing the PAYDAY franchise's soul, and I could not agree more.

Update 2: Game gets better. Player engagement, however, does not. It's extra funny to me too how they've halfed the price of the game for newcomers (which I understand as a reasonable financial decision) but have given no real compensation to day one players. I assure you the cosmetics are not worth 30 ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ €.

Update 3: Starbreeze are making way for their next release, a D&D game, without having sorted out this ♥♥♥♥ out first. I wouldn't get my hopes up for the future of this game.

Look at the trailer. Look at those visuals. Don't you think they're amazing?

I've played this map both loud and stealth, with many ways of approaching both methods. I've noticed stealth IS kinda challenging, but nothing you won't be able to handle.

Many of the early reviews have mentioned crashes and many bugs. These have now been fixed in a small hotfix.

Beholder

One of the best games I've played. Even if the game is only a few hours long, the portal mechanics make up for it; the test chambers, how they introduce the gameplay elements to you, it's perfect. The story will keep you entretained. Has plenty of achievements to boost up that playtime. The Co-Op mode is also a lot of fun if you're playing with a friend.

The game
Scrap Mechanic is a creative multiplayer sandbox game where you explore, scavenge and collect objects from all over a wide-open interactive world. With these gathered objects you can build shelters, impressive moving vehicles, and machines that will help you survive on a dangerous world full of robots.

The gamemodes
There's currently 3 gamemodes in Scrap Mechanic: Challenge, Survival and Creative.

Challenge is pretty simple. You are given materials to build a craft that will need to surpass any obstacles along the way to the finish line.

Creative is the gamemode to let your imagination fly. Build anything without needing to worry about materials or efficiency, from a simple car to a complex logic machine.

Survival is the main gamemode in the game. Let's talk about it in a new section.

Survival
So, here's the deal. You are a mechanic who just crashed into a completely unexplored world filled with farmer robots. You don't take long to discover that these creatures have gone wild and attack any mechanic who gets close. You need to collect food and resources to survive.

This seems all really good, doesn't it?
Well, there's just one little problem.

It's too grindy.

I can describe my 100 hours of playtime in a simple list:
0-10 hours: Learning basic mechanics.
10-20 hours: Farming and first weapon [Spudgun]
20-30 hours: Farming and material gattering.
30-40 hours: First warehouse.
40-50 hours: Farming and second weapon [Shotgun]
50-60 hours: Farming.
60-70 hours: Farming.
70-80 hours: Final weapon [Spudling Gun]
80-100 hours: A LOT of resource gattering to make 1 little house.

Conclusion:
Good game, but you need to invest a lot of your time.
