Impossible to actually make any real progress as the sheer volume of enemies that spawn even with the value at it's lowest prevent you from having even two seconds to actually do any of the real tasks in the game. Really want to love it because the idea is great, but making actual progress just feels like a straight up actual chore.

Do I find it at all scary? Not really, only has gotten one real jump out of me during my first run. Does it still have awesome atmosphere regardless? Oh yeah, even if my dumbass isn't scared of the danger on the road actively trying to kill me, doesn't mean I wont still admire the wonderful old radio music while I try my best to steer clear of the severed head the demons decide needs to decorate my windshield!

An amazing simulated Rougelike sandbox that absolutely deserves the "Most Innovative Gameplay' Award this year! If you liked playing with those falling sand games in middle school and being a Wizard interests you, pick this up!

I decided to yell "♥♥♥♥ you" at a ghost when it made a phone ring and it instantly showed itself and began trying to attack me with an axe. I was brought to genuine tears as I was escorted out by my teammate.

10/10, I needed therapy anyways.

I'm going to preface this entire review by saying two things. One, is that I only actively play the game in VR, so my experience is solely from that. And two, I have to reveal this bias of mine, and that it's that I believe Jank is the spice that can bring out the true stupid fun in some games, this one included.

I never followed the actual hype train leading up to it's release, having simply just not heard of it, instead just clowning on in when it did come out and ultimately flopped so badly. But, in my recent acquisition of a VR headset and a desperate search for some fun Sci-fi games to play, lo-and-behold No Man's Sky is coming up constantly as a reccommended game for it despite how terrible the game had been years ago. This VR support was added into the game for FREE as apposed to companies like Bethesda who repackage games that weren't built for it with poorly optimized VR and resell it for $60 ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ bucks.

The game is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ stunning, ships and planet surfaces are visual feasts to look at. The color palletes and weird environments, as well as very detailed (if somewhat janky) base building mechanics to let you build massive bases on any and all planets you find, no matter how radioactive their atmosphere may be! And the true SCALE of it all is just breathtaking in VR! The controls are mostly intuitive and responsive, and while flying feels a bit awkward at first, it quickly become obvious how the controls are intended to work and becomes extremely natural and comfortable. Menus are pretty easy to navigate too, with everything being clean. And just to keep it short, all I will say about the games size is that it spans across 255 galaxies, with everyone including you all starting in the same one named Euclid. This first galaxy isn't even ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ CLOSE to having every planet in it discovered, and there are 254 other Galaxies, some with higher chances for even MORE unique planets. So it's big and fun!

But now for the bad. The building, as I mention, can be extremely janky at times. Terrain that you paved down to build will sometimes just reappear when you come back to the base, forcing you to dig it all out. It's still easy to accidentally clip into the world and die if you aren't careful (though in my nearly 100 hours I've only had this happen 2 times). Connection is not always stable when you enter the multiplayer areas of the game, and god forbid you go to any of the Hub Galaxies. They have very cool bases and are populated, but are also extremely laggy and buggy as a result. These lag issues are present even in small scale multiplayer too. For example, trying to show my friends the base I built in my space freighter sawe them both dying when they came up into the actual "base" part because the network didn't register it on their end, they saw nothing and simply fell to their deaths. But! That being said, Most systems in the game absolutely work as they are intended to now, and honestly even in VR the bugs I've seen haven't killed the immersion totally!

I give this game a 7.5/10. So much time in it only because I have a morbid love of Jank and big games.
