i wanted to call this vamphades survivor but then realized it would sound like vampire survivor got aids so never mind

EITHER WAY, it's a vampire survivor-like with progression based on loot instead of meta progression (mostly, still have some perks to unlock on each character) with hades based level ups. the writing is godawful and cringe but who the f plays these games for the few lines of conversation we get?

it's fun, get it

This seems very overlooked a lot of the time so I'm starting the review with it: the graphical style may give you early 2000's vibe, YOU'LL GET USED TO IT AND START TO LOVE IT, I SWEAR. I have a beast of a computer and besides indie games I also play AAA games on ultra, a real dude football bro into games type, and trust me if you don't want to try this purely because of how it looks YOU WILL regret it massively. Don't be like me and put it off for years for that.

I have put it in a lot of hours into the "demo" (aka the basegame you can download for free on the dev's website), do it! In no time you'll come back to steam and buy everything here just to support the lovely dev.

Go try it. No hat, like the kids say.

Larian changed the gaming/cRPG landscape for ever. Masterpiece.

Last games that made me feel this way were The Witcher 3 & Elden Ring. Buy it. Full price. Play it. Even if you don't normally play cRPGs. Just play it. Please. PLEASE.

My intro to this genre of game was Stoneshard and I got hooked. However, the game had particular flaws (saving system, tedious restarts, etc). Thanks to the streamer Dridlicious on Twitch I found this game which on first glance seemed "Stoneshard but better".

After playing for some hours, it is. I'm now calling that other game "Doors of Trithius but worse."

I especially love the skill system and I love the amount of content there already is. I love the dungeon crawling, the item/inventory management for health and the feeling of getting stronger. For instance, in my first town I got a quest for killing a bandit leader. I got my ass whooped, played a few hours doing other things and got stronger both gear and skills. I came back and destroyed him. SEROTONIN ENGAGE!

Although I'm not done myself, I already can't wait for more updates and content. This might be sleeper hit. I'm already recommending it to friends.

P.S: Anyone reading this on the store page, if you like turnbased roguelikes, get it. Try it. Really. It's so good.

I bought the game, had fun with it and if you can get it at 50-75% discount during a sale then maybe try it if you like turn based and tile based combat. However, I bought it at full price and at this point the game has essentially become abandonware so in that aspect me paying 25 euro's for what I got (i consider the current state the final release even though it's nowhere actually finished per their own roadmap) has NOT been worth the money.

We still get devlogs, some random screenshots made with the ingame assets and once in half a year 3 enemies and 1 spell gets added but the days of actual new content are over. We MIGHT get the caravan system as like the final death rattle of the development cycle but there is no way this game gets even half of the remaining roadmap done. If we get 1.0, it will 100% not be the current end of the roadmap but rather the current state of the game with some added bells and whistles.

This game's future is essentially dead, the dev and publisher are just in denial. A shame, because the framework is fun. It's a good game. It's just lacking in content and overpromised x-fold what actually could be delivered.

TLDR: don't be fooled by the fancy looking roadmap, what is currently promised is not what we'll get.

for a quick reference this game is basically borderlands of isaac. bindings of borderlands? something like that.

buy it, giga overload with content. base game + dlcs is currently not even 20 euros. the gameplay/combat is extremely satisfying, both mechanic wise and numbers go up brrr-wise.

They just charged 10 euro's for an upgrade which has worse performance and didn't give anything extra, like gameplay or the graphics they promised. Essentially, you pay for tanking your performance.

These devs and publishers are smoking crack.

I just finished the first main story (first time when you get end credits). Out of curiosity I looked up a non-spoiler list of the timeline of the MSQ. I almost fell out of my chair when I realized that not only I barely scratched the surface of all game+expansions combined, THERE IS LITERALLY STILL HALF THE AMOUNT OF WHAT I JUST DONE FOR POST PATCH QUESTS WHICH CONNECT BASE GAME TO THE FIRST EXPANSION.

People were not lying when they say this game is looooong, even if you literally only do the MSQ.

This is positive by the way, I like this game a lot, it's a jRPG in a social setting. Joining a guild (Free Company ingame) is easy, you can look up on a community finder with all the filters you want (casual/hc/etc) but it's not necessary per se, however I would still recommend it.

This is also the first mmorpg where people didn't shout at me for not knowing a dungeon, all of which I obviously did for the first time. I made a tank and having some experience tanking way back in WoW makes for an intuitive system and the game is also really lenient with threat/defiance generating so keeping the mobs on you is fairly easy, which makes for good learning especially if this is your first (not for me) mmorpg.

If there's still a trial, try it. Really. There's a reason this game blew up and stayed relevant userbase wise between all these dog mmorpgs.

A VS-type game which actually stays difficult and doesn't turn into a OP clown fiesta last 10 minutes. The interactions between skills and items remind me a bit of Isaac, you can get very wacky.

Didn't think I would play it for 30+ hours but here we are.

For EA there is enough content to be a full game by the way, at least for this type of game.
