There are few survival games out there that avoid the old tropes of "hunt, eat, fight monsters"; the Long Dark is one of them. Story mode is well written and produced, while survival mode will give you a long-lasting challenge that doesn't get overly repetitive. My one complaint about survival mode, however, is how much food you need to survive. While it makes hunting an unavoidable fact of life, there is no human out there that needs to eat an entire adult deer every 2-3 days, or upwards of 5 kilos of fish to survive. Mackenzie must have some serious metabolism issues.

Never have I felt so threatened by the sound of any sort of engine approaching in my life... the sound design alone is worth the price

I've had more tooth-clenching moments in this game than many FPS & horror titles, watching as a half dozen Chinese torpedoes bear down on my sub after inserting a SEAL team & running away with no more than the weapons in my tubes. The only thing it's missing is a multiplayer mode, what I'd give to have a one on one duel with a human adversary.

This is a truly classic title in the Ace Combat series... gives me nostalgia from all that time spent in Ace Combat 5 on the PS2! Campaign brings in plenty of challenge, especially on points-based missions (even more so in hard mode). I've given multiplayer a few shots and have so far only managed to dodge missiles & use up all my flares without getting a single kill. Seems like multiplayer won't run out of replay value at least.

I'm surprised at how entertaining getting stuck on ♥♥♥♥♥♥ roads is, considering it happens every day here in Canada

Wouldn't even activate properly, so I'm stuck in demo mode. Don't waste your money on a product that you won't get.

Elite is one of those games where you simply like it or don't. I personally find the process of repeatedly charging and frameshifting for 30 systems on end tedious, but think it works well as a game mechanic and makes exploration have more of a risk to it. After a long journey, it makes you want to get your effort's worth of scans and stellar views, and a few encounters with Thargoids definitely helps.

As for the upcoming Beyond update, I'm excited to see the new planet generation engine come into play. Also hope that the area around Barnard's Loop is unlocked soon (if there's anything story-wise the devs put in there they don't want us to see).
