I am (was) not a fan of souls-like games. I had played Dark Souls III and Nioh 2 and had gotten some enjoyment (like maybe 5 minutes until I got to a boss or something, but would easily get frustrated and quit.
After playing this game for an hour I realized I was hooked.
This game is NOT easy, however it is more "easily accessible". This game does not railroad (for the most part) down 1 path, you do have the ability to veer off the path and do things you want and go where you want (it will not be easy though if you decide to wander into a higher leveled area though). This game also does not hold your hand, it is still an immensly tough game.

Overall I have enjoyed my experience, yes there are some issues with optimization, but overall I have not noticed them (when I did play on my OneXplayer I did have some issues, but it was an incredibly easy fix of lowering graphics settings).

I highly recommend this game even if you're not a "souls-like" enjoyer such as myself.
