Now I wish I didn't work weekends!
On a side note - do you know if Alchemist or Brewmaster will be shipping on Steam machines in the fall?
We're still figuring this out.
Alienware M11xR1, core2duo 7300U, Nvidia GT335M
...But I wonder if some of the issues from previous reviews were fixed or are being looked into:

I hope the community can also "pre - flag" or blacklist games that crash often or have problems. Sure you could launch any game, but you at least would know before hand which fail or need attention from their developers, so is motivation for them to fix their stuff.
for Sandboxing are you guys developing something in-house or will make use of something like the recent "Xdg-App" system: http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=news_item&px=Xdg-App-Sandboxing-System.
I think there's still time to make the Steam machines launch experience much better!
We've looked at the xdg-app system, but until they can support OpenGL it's a non-starter for SteamOS.
Will brewmaster users be the first to use vulkan drivers with the source 2 dota 2 reborn?
GPU is too old.
Stephenson's Rocket will support this.
I had post_logon problems in VMware. Just about to boot on real tin
I tested some package installations, the following packages install just fine:
bash-completion
file-roller
git
iotop
openssh-server
pastebinit
zip
unzip
screen
p7zip-full (required for file-roller)
The following packages don't install:
gedit (like mentioned above)
build-essential (the libc6-dev, libc-dev and g++4.9 seem to be missing)
lsof (libperl4-corelibs-perl is missing)
