I'm going for a bit of navel-gazing philosophy today, since that's where my head's at right now. Feel free to ignore this as a bunch of semi-coherent ramblings of someone who hasn't had much sleep this week.

I remembered recently that the word Ubuntu means "I am as we are." Taking in that meaning shows implications of standing on the accomplishments of those who came before us, that we often take for granted.

We are given ideas of ourselves and our lives that are profitable or useful (or both) for someone else.

When people speak of "the delusion of our culture," one example is how our society likes to give us images of what "success" looks like, and what "success" is supposed to feel like. The two are not at all the same thing - but conflating the two is what often drives what we choose as the direction of our lives. To the profit and power of others, and not of ourselves.

Taking stock of our ideas of things and people, and trying to compare them to what we understand of the reality we observe around us is just the first part. From that view, it can be easy to see how shallow they are from what they inspire.

Allowing ourselves the time and space to take a breath, take inventory of our ignorance, and recognize the ways in which we all are hungry raccoons scrabbling away at the trash in a panic is another way - and a necessary one.

For my part, as much as I valued and loved my grandfather, I'm coming to terms with how I took him and what he accomplished for granted. How I didn't properly recognize the weight of his choices, why he made them - and the consistency with which he lived his life.

Sure, he had shortcomings and issues, like anyone else - but those don't at all take away from the life he constructed for himself and those he loved. I was one of the ones he loved, and I fell into the trap of taking him and what he accomplished with his own hands and hard work for granted too.

"I am as we are." I could not be what or who I am now without his and others' influence to help show me what pathways were possible, paths worn into earth through repeated effort.

We can learn to honor the good in ourselves and the good we accomplish - especially in light that it is never in isolation, though it can sometimes feel like it. We can learn to value and understand our ignorance, as doing so (and now hewing to hasty & shallow ideas of things) is the first step toward understanding.

And yes, all this is coming from the same person who still thinks making armpit farting noises is funny - take it with a grain of salt.

I don't see this bug in the "known issues" and was told in game to stop complaining when I asked if others had gotten it
