Can anyoje Apply to be a Moderator or does Valve Invite Certain people for the position ?

Find an old post from the user and if they have the word (banned) in red next to the name then they are banned from that hub.

He's defo not banned at moment. He's back posting on every single thread about how 'bad' the game is & people shouldn't buy, or get refunded, 'broken promises', 'beta testers' e.t.c. along with slagging off anyone who defends the game or points out to him when he's wrong about something (99% of his posts). He needs to go. It's been at least a year of this.

I've had a look at his post history and it seems pretty reasonable. He owns the game, he's conveyed some valid criticism in a pretty respectful way and doesn't seem to be fighting or bothering other users. Definitely not grounds to remove someone. If you don't wish to communicate or see their content, just block them.

It was wafts of criticism that actually made the game better afterall.

craig_mark, why you have the need to call others out on their wrong behaviour and then act the same way. Do you truly think it is okay to spam several threads, replying to the "troll" that he needs to go away, that he is "less welcomed than COVID" and so on? Let's say that he is a troll, don't you think that your permanent attention gives him a lot of satisfaction? Ignore it.

Yeah it's a bit like what I used to say when I was chairman of our local Labour Party - "those that wish to do the job should be prohibited from doing it".

Meaning that if you want to do, there may well be underlying reasons why this makes you the worst choice for it. You may have a power trip or whatever. It's a sad fact of life.

So, it's as others said - the mods keep watch (always watching!) and note anyone who seems cool and nice and cares for the community and doesn't do any of the dirty tricks or gets into flame wars and insulting. Then they approach you if they need to.

In essence it's this - they don't accept job applications. They poach based on experience!

I have blocked them. It does nothing. The posts are still there, as are the offended other users posts quoting him & the new users who are clearly being put off buying the game & some that are getting refunds before even playing; all due to this one guy.

Dude, seriously this is NOT the way to behave.

There's a strict reason why the saying goes on here "report, block, move on".

It's because retaliating, going on the offensive and such as you have brings YOU into breaking the rules too. This is not an excuse to do so. There is no excuse to break the rules, so don't.

And you CANNOT tell what action has been taken against a person unless it is an outright ban you see. They may still be looking into things, or may have warned him - stuff you can NEVER find out.

So again, report, block, move on.

Stop being silly and drop this senseless crusade because all you'll do is end up getting banned yourself. If you report, you're giving the notice to those that DO have evidence and CAN check. If they don't find a problem, then consider they might have more evidence than you have or see things differently, Again, you CANNOT conclude they ignore it because you have no idea.

Clearly none of you read much of his posts. Nor do you understand that everything he's saying is actually lies. As for him playing the game, he hasn't. He regularly describes things that are not in game, claims things that are in game from the beginning are not there, he thinks the game has 5 planets & 3 buildings for god's sake. He has not played. He tells lies. He is on a crusade to stop people from buying the game & been on this crusade for over a year. Every member of the boards that has posted more than once has expressed a desire for him to go. His messages are all antagonistic & several users have reported that he has private messaged them all manner of nasty stuff.
It's saddening that some of you have commented before actually doing a bit more research into this guy.

It appears he has indeed played the game and some of the criticisms he's made are perfectly valid. Also you can only message someone on Steam if you are on their friends list so if it is true, then he's supposedly friends with the very people that are apparently trying to force him off the public forums which is illogical and I don't believe it either.

All reports are reviewed either by moderators or developers and none have warranted his removal it would seem and having looked through his post history, I don't think he's done much wrong and seeing he's not banned, this is the case regardless of your feelings towards him.

Each to their own I guess.

I can only summise it's that they're community minded ideally. I did similarl when I was invovled in local politics. There's no denying you set yourself for tons of ♥♥♥♥, but it's mitigated by the fact you CAN do good and help. So you do have to balance that.

SO I guess if you can do that, the desire to good trumps the other crap.

Plus some of us are masochistic ;)

If someone pulls it up and necros it, it oftens squeaks through as most of us on here don't see the dates - often only the last post, so it's easy to miss.

Plus, if another poster DOES come in with a problem, it's just adderssing that.

I looked everywhere on the Valve website for a Steam Forum Moderator Application thingy and didn't find any.

So I did the next best thing.

I drove out to Valves HQ in Bellevue, WA and found a center position in their parking lot.
I pulled out a boombox and "blasted" 80's music in hopes of serenading Gabe.

I did learn a thing or two.
Gabe doesn't like music from the Eighties, and..
The County Jail is quite comfy, they got that gel mattress thing going on there, I almost didn't want to leave.
