Auction Permanently VAC'd CSGO Skins
There's a disturbingly large amount of skins that are forever left unable to be sold or traded. 10's of thousands of dollars worth of skins are just sitting in the inventories of players who were VAC banned, never to see the light of a competive match ever again. I think that Steam/Valve should take after police departments, and confiscate and auction off these items of cheaters and hackers.

Just as with cars that have been taken from drug dealers and then auctioned off to their communities, the same should be done with these skins. Players would get to enjoy these daily or weekly auctions, where they would have a chance to get some very nice skins, possibly for much cheaper than standard market price. Along with that, Valve would get back some money for selling these skins, which would easily pay off the cost of hiring some people to code in an auction system.

This is truly a win-win situation, where skins don't just go to waste in people's inventories, the community gets an exciting opportunity for cheap skins, and Valve/Steam gets an extra source of income

This would be great.

Drive down skin prices and piss the former owners of the texture files off.

This is a great idea! I hope Value/Steam/Gaben sees this!

OOPS I MEAN VALVE**

Never going to happen because this would open Valve up to lawsuits for theft. At least if people are Vac banned, they can't trade or sell the skins so they are stuck with them.

Any purchased skins are still owned by the account they are on so they can't be auctioned off.

They are also still usable by the account, just not in VAC protected games.

THIS....

The account rightful user still has full use of the items, just not on VAC secure servers. So no items are being wasted or just sitting around, unless those users are allowing them to.

"Can I move my items and games to a different Steam account?"

No. Items and games cannot be moved from a VAC banned account to a different account, however, new games can still be purchased and registered on a VAC banned account.

I'd like something like that, there was or still is a game (forgot what game it is) where if someone gets banned, the items on their account was sold off to the highest bidder.

Since we technically don't own our accounts or anything on them I think a system like that could be useful somewhat and might even make people think twice on cheating (but prob not).

But on the other hand they can still play on non VAC secure servers and would still want their skins.

So where do the profit go? in that game

I don't remember and can't find the game, but you could use gold (in-game money) or real money, it was ether that gold you had to pay more or you could do a BO (buy out) for a certain amount depending on the gear and what teir it was with upgrades, ect. And with real moeny it was basicaly the same thing but the money went towards server cost and the game.

That's the penalty of being a scoundrel gaming cheat. The penalty should be far worse.

Difference being Drug dealers actually commited a crime, while cheaters only violated the Steam TOS.

Besides, out of sight out of mind. Those items there will remind their owners their screw-up every time they look at them.

Excellent point. Well said, and I had not ever looked at it that way before. Some good wisdom there.

I never understood the argument that this is theft. You technically don't own the game, and an argument could be made you don't own the skins either. All Valve has to do is modify the ToS so that at least future usufructs could not effectively litigate in the event of such restrictions. If I were VAC banned I would gladly give up skins for the greater good. I cannot accept when things go to waste. And let's be honest, you can't really use your skins if banned, as most servers are VAC protected, and unprotected servers may contain cheating/modifications/cyberbullying to the point it's not realistically worth engaging. At present, the banned player is limited to such a degree that a case could be made Valve is already "stealing" from them. For example, if one owns an extortionate (or any) motor vehicle and is cited with criminally negligent operation, and the officer stipulated they cannot sell, and cannot use said vehicle. This would be what I consider "partial theft," as the rights to use the property have been taken. We are not being intellectually honest when suggesting the skin-using banned still has skins insofar as it is relevant. Thus, I see no rebuttal to Valve liquidating or distributing these seized assets. If anyone has a counter-argument to my deduction I would love to see it.

If they paid any money for the skins, (bought keys to open up crates, bought it off the market, bought it off some guy by sending him paypal money), and valve just takes them away, that is theft.

And no that would not be considered theft that the person could not sell or giveaway their vehicle if they were told to do that. Also a cop can't do that, but a judge sure can. A cop can impound a vehicle too. The people can still use the skins that they have, they just can't sell or trade them off. Thats not theft. Also they agreed to this when they signed up for steam, its in the EULA somewhere that no one reads.
