Steam throttling download speeds
Seriously infuriating. A download that takes should take 10 minutes downloading at 5 mb per second ends up taking HOURS cause I get throttled down to 300 KB

Wow... really ? you are not joking ? it's the first time i see such a big problem of download, even when blockbusters games are released (GTAV, TW3....)

My god.. COD... are PC players going mad ? :derp:

Have you tried changing download severs?

Steam doesn't have unlimited bandwidth. You have to share it with every single other user who downloads something - be it BlOps3 or the latest update of an obscure Indietitle you never heard of. With more than 100 million active accounts, your share indeed becomes rather small.

never had any probs with speed here, but possible that the release of a major title will kill steams bandwith.... :)

Well they could pass some of their success on the users in the form of bandwidth. Instead of get rid of the crap sales,I didnt DL project cars for a long time after release and it still took 18 hrs in the US. Yes I have a good BB connection. capped at like 420.but mostley ran around 350 Never buying a major realease on steam again had the same problem with Witcher 3 .

Instead of taking 20 minutes to install Fallout 4 pre load, it took a few hours as it kept stopping and starting..

this works 99% of the time if you change it to some region where people should be sleeping. if it doesn't work on any, congratulations, you have a crappy internet provider.
in my experience my ISP 8mbps gave me 1024kbps from steam, fibre at 36mbps gave me 4.5mbps from steam . superfast fibre 76mbps now gives me 9.1mbps from steam, origin and uplay slightly more. without speaking to an expert , i dont know the ins and outs.

EDIT..Try what the good Satoru suggested below first. That is more than likely the best option so far, as he is right about the released games and the many that are more than likely downloading them right now.

Ok, my friend. I will attempt to help you here if you are willing to accept that the issue could be on your end, the problem with your downloads that is.

So I would first suggest that you boot your PC into safe mode WITH networking and try to log in to your Steam client. After that, try to download something with Steam and test the issue.

STAY in this boot mode and come back here to post, please.

Post your operating system please, also.

1) Change your download region. Given the release of 3 major titles in quick succession BO3/TombRaider/FO4 many North American/European content servers are maxed out. Since FO4 isn't out in Japan yet you might have a better shot there

2) Steam doesn't 'throttle' your downloads unless you expressly tell it to do so in the "Downloads" settings

3) Your ISP is much more likely to be throttling Steam. Steam can pretty much saturate any connection globally
