Yeah I know that. That wasnt a direct Steam question anyway. More like a general question. I really find it horrible that such games are nearly unavailable nowadays.

This. You usually acquire a time-limited license to make money of a franchise that is not yours. If this time is up, you can't sell your stuff anymore. Retail copies can still be sold because the publisher already got the money from the retailer, but digital is more or less a make-to-order purchase in which the key is provided only if someone buys it.
A good example is the Deadpool game by Activision. They had the extended X-Men license and once it was up, the game vanished on every digital storefront. They have since re-acquired them and now you can buy it again.
