Help please AC Unity nearly unplayable
So I recently decided to download Assassin's Creed Unity on Uplay, and while im running it within 20 minutes the monitor will turn off and the fan will turn to max speed. The monitor wont connect to my pc until i restart the pc.
This is the only game it happens with, I have several other high-spec games that this doesn't happen with so im pretty sure its the game. I know this game is known for its bugs, does anybody have any fixes?

First off, check on the game's forum here as you'll likely have better success there.

But as a rule of thumb, NEVER ever assume that because this only happens to one game it's the game at fault.

It is highly likely this just happens to be the game that just gets your PC hot enough to trip a thermal cutout. Which means your PC is overheating.

Cutouts only happen for reasons like that. So you need to tell us when you last cleaned out the dust and crap from your PC, amd where it's located. Is it well ventialted and well away from walls and other things?

yes, its very well ventilated. The case of the PC is always open, so it always gets the air it needs. It has plenty of room. I think its only for this game because i have many other high spec games that are much more demanding than this one, and it doesn't happen for those. (battlefield 1 at high, r6 siege at very high.)

Also, thanks for the advice. I'll give the game's forum a shot.

I'll try running the game at lower settings and seeing if that works.

I've also been downloading in the background, is that bad? should I try running the game without doing that? I'll give it a shot.

No it's not bad, but it may have pushed things over the edge.

Your point about running things with lower settings is a good start, and if it still persists, you could try stoopping background processes one by one to see what helps cause it too.

It could just be as I originally said - that there's just enough to push a thermal cutout or it could be something rogue causing it, though less likely.

If it's well ventilated, and well cleared out, then that's the thing to do next - as well as checking that game's forum of course.
Is likely not the cause, but let uplay display fps.
And enable vsync to make sure the computer only calculates what you can see.

A PC doesn't need ventilation, it needs good air flow, a PC case has side panels for a reason.

Fair point. I didn't pick up on that.

Yeah, it's all well having plenty of room around the PC, and it being cleaned out, but opening side panels while running ain't such a great idea and it can destroy airflow that it needs.

Cases are designed to have an inlet area, and an outlet area at another part, making sure the air runs over the required parts in between. Upsetting any seal or closure by opening the sides can destroy this and you could easily get pockets of dead air that just get hot.

So you might want to try changing this and run with it closed.

dust and noise.
If you close the case you need directed airflow.
