Borderlands 2 EULA - not a great idea for consumers
Most recently I have received a eula "request" for borderlands 2- i.e.- was playing offline & game deactivated itself this last Monday. The only way I can see this happening is that one of the last "updates" had been set on a timer to lock users out of their games at a pre-determined time. Now borderlands will not play without signing consent to new eula.

I would imagine that most borderlands players clicked the eula without reading the terms- some of which are troubling to me. As I read it- in the event of a cyberattack- say- that severely damages the borderlands network- those that signed the eula may find that they are on the hook for damages- as "they had agreed to it"- and "no proof is required for company" to lay claims. Hopefully thuis is not the case- but it might not be a bad idea to check exact liability with a lawyer to confirm.

In my opinion- this eula software is basically ransomware. If you already owned the game prior to new eula- the eula terms should not apply. Taking cash for a sale- then denying the service that you paid for is fraud in my book. This affair reminds me of the legal battle between Sony and consumers over the "rootkit virus" -copyright protection software- implanted in some of its consumer products.

I will not sign the eula- and am removing steam from my computer-as I am not going to risk receiving any more "trojan updates" from this company.

It is only a game- entertainment- not a search for a new kidney, heart, or lungs.

Goodluck & goodbye.

Thankfully, regardless of what is written in an EULA, it CANNOT overrrule your statutory rights, so if there truly is a statement like you claim, they could NEVER hold to it.

They would HAVE to have evidence you were party, or they would face legal action. Very straighforward.

Do you have a copy of the old eula to compare it to?

I'm sure the update is due the fact that BL2 is now available for SteamOS.

Why do people pretend to read the EULA then make proclamations that obviously show they didn't understand anything

If you live in a modern civilized country with an intact law system the premise "innocent until proven" is still valid and therefore this portion of the new EULA is null. "Laying claim" doesn't mean they sue you and you have to pay to their liking.
It is also helpful to know your countries stand point towards EULAs and having to accept them after the purchase was made - in some EU states they are void and null.

You always lose with proprietary software. Steam sends your DNS logs out, these EULAs are designed by Handsome Jack personally.

What did you expect? Proprietary = you lose, always.

The new EULA is from 2K (not Steam or Gearbox) and has to do with some company merging that happened. Has nothing to do with this game, nor Steam. If accepting some terms (that did not change from before when you accepted them) is enough for you to ban enjoying life in this way, then I hope you can go find happiness elsewhere. Good luck!

hmm... the gamer nowadays must accept outfiled and sophisticated EULA, in order to play a game....
remember back in the days... when we just bught a game to simply play it, and did not have to fully offer our private lifes completely to a specific company doing gameindustry... :/

Man it sure is great that online games never update their EULA all the time. Like EA.. Or Blizzard...

but then... to avoid any form of EULAs... there are ways.
Industry can never own the net! its ours! ;)

Oh, but to be able to reclaim the time I spent reading OP. I read it, was sooooo boring, but I saw nothing out of the norm, nothing that spooked me.

:) why do they force us to sign it then.... when there is nothing of contend in it!?
trukr Oct 1, 2014 @ 7:46pm
Really? I take it you did not read it? Short version, you do not own the software, they do, single user blah blah, if you just play the game, don't do anything malicious with it, well you have no fear. Why am I even in this stupid thread again anyway, have a good one, I am unsubscribing from this foil cap convention.

malicious things are done all arround the game.
some call it *modding*... others name it *cheat*.
players either live with it or cancel the game.

as to the EULA: i will simply go to delete local files of the game. really dont need another datamining piece of soft.
equals to the Pre-Sequel-Borderlands.
same shhh, new dress, low-grav. wow. awesome. :/
no thx!

Back before the EULA popped up, there was a basic system of "If you play this game, youve already agreed to our EULA". This would usually pop up for a few seconds on startup. The newer games generally give you a button to click so people can read at their own pace.
