Will there be a Steam Grand Prix Event again ?
So I was wondering if they will do the same event that called Steam Grand Prix 2019 event or similiar to that, that can people earn exp just by buying games if I remember right, would be really cool if they would do an event like that again.

You can easily see historical evidence of what they do by checking previous sales. I remember the sales event one Christmas where you earned either a lucky dip containing either a piece of coal, a money off voucher for a game, or a game itself.

Can you guess what happened?

Yup, people found a way to exploit it by making many accounts and farmnig games, so that the entire pool of free games ran out days early. Devs were PISSED, understandably.

So they changed the events to be something less directly monetary, since then and again, things get exploited, just like the Grand Prix.

So what do you think will happen based upon this? Not likely is it?

So far they haven't repeated any big events.
Grand Prix was massively flawed by players being able to choose a team.
So they all went for the cute and fluffy corgi.

Don't bet on it, they haven't done repeat events really beside community clicker games.

Grand Prix was a major flaw, and didn't work as intended how they wanted due to the fact majority of people try to join :summer2019corgi: team, putting everyone else at a disadvantage of ever winning, then things get worse where Steam had to step in to try make it fair for the other teams, which didn't work as intended due to the community, so hoping this to ever come back is probably like hoping for 2nd coming of christ to happen, that means don't hope for it, as not happening.

Correction: you didn't earn 'Steam XP' from buying games, it went a bit deeper than that.

What you could do was supporting a team by donating points which you got from buying games. In a way the Steam GPX was somewhat of a predecessor of the current Steam point shop. All fun and well, but being on the winning team didn't really do all that much for you. I supported team :summer2019tortoise: which ended up 2nd or 3rd yet I still managed to earn a nice amount of "Steam XP" to increase my level.

Sure, there were some fun prizes, but nothing in comparison to the real issue: Steam awards.

That was the key: by earning Steam awards you'd also earn "Steam XP" and that could increase your level big time. What Valve apparently didn't realize (= assumption on my end) is that there were quite a few silly games back then which could shower you in Steam awards, these were usually "adult-ish games" and thus also often blocked by Steams "Maturity content filters".

Being someone who can enjoy adult games from time to time I also happened to own a few of those, and that definitely helped to raise my level a bit. Nothing excessively because not all of those games were as much fun as others, but it definitely helped. I even discovered some new games which were actually surprisingly good (IMO anyway) despite costing almost nothing.

Of course others managed to seriously abuse this somehow and rumor has it that some Steamers even saw their levels being demoted because of that.

But to answer.... there have been a few more big events between then and now. Heck, even the Steam point shop got introduced during such an event. All events also provided an option for you to increase your Steam XP, but not as excessively anymore because they 1) Capped the maximum amount of XP you could get and 2) The amount you could purchase is now depending on how much Steam points you have, not necessarily "Steam XP achievements".

Wasn't that the event where players hacked the offers and ended up with insane Steam Profile Levels in excess of 30 000 - yeah 30k! I can see why you want that event to repeat. lol

Valve dropped the ball big time and shows the talent being drained by Steam's competitors.

Yes, though Steam did correct everyone account that abuse using the exploit.

That event was an absolute disaster and not just for that. Everything about that sale was wrong and even how they corrected the multiple problems/flaws was unfair. It was a real catastrophe for Valve. I only remember it because it was so bad.

Sale wasn't a problem, the only issue was the event itself.

They made great error in thinking how the community will choose the racers, as the majority of people picked one racer only :summer2019corgi:. Stepping in late, or even at all was a mistake to try making it fair to the other teams :summer2019cockatiel::summer2019hare::summer2019tortoise::summer2019pig:, only to cause more problems making it unfair for the overly populated team :summer2019corgi: that always winning due to mass amount of people on that one team, forcing other racers to have a chance to win as well. Now of course if they left things as they did, the other teams would never have win a single time ever as that what would happen, because :summer2019corgi: was practically upwards of 80% of all the people that join, and can easily see why other teams would never win ever.

If they sticked to clicker game, or done something else it would've been better.

there was no notable sale event for winter since 4 years, as it was always awards. this will be the 5th year.

Monster sale was my all time favorite. I know it was damn near pointless, but it was very fun. Saliens was a major disappointment in comparison.

That event was the reason why my friend who never spent a singular dime on steam levels, overshot me by like 70 levels (at that time) from level 20 something to level 200+
Absolute kick in the balls, and im never gonna buy any trading cards again. Because steam perfectly shows how ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ and stupid the levels are. Nonetheless, i hope it never comes back!
