Space Haven

Station Mode Haven Story Mode People not showing up.
In the beginning after i started the game i got pestered with requests by that new foundation.
"Please help us... there is so many things to help us with"

After turning down the first few i manage to build some medical beds... it works with the local ships, so surely it also works with the foundation thingy right?

eventually I take a mission
"Ok the ship will be there in 7 days"
Sure ok... ship also shows up as arriving.
20 minutes later... "Weird werent they supposed to arrive by now?"
No ship arrived and none shown arriving.
Maybe they got caught up on their way or something.

Few hours later... same thing happens.

And again.

Now I am like 20 hours into the new map and I dont get any requests from them anymore?
Is this mission thing just bugged, or am I doing something wrong ?

Neither.

The ships are getting "intercepted" on the way. You get random distress calls "mayday, mayday..." and in the pop-up it will show the faction. Took me a while to catch on, but the Haven ships are getting intercepted by Bot/Aliens/Pirates. (It happens with all factions, you have in inbound ship wanting X service ... then a distress call and they're gone. I'm actually paying pretty close attention to these now ... if a Military Alliance ship gets hit by Aliens I'm on the next shuttle out as it's a good chance to find a new crew member who can actually shoot!)

Back to the Pathfinders... if they're intercepted by Pirates, you can take the appropriate Away Mission, free the crew, and they will resume their trip to you. If they're intercepted by Aliens or Bots, you can still do the mission but the ship/crew is lost (but you may find someone to recruit).

There's a limited number of these Pathfinder missions. From the starmap, clicking on the Haven Foundation icon gets you to the menu to interact with the fleet. The first option is "Status" and will show you what percentage of Pathfinder ships have passed through. If it reads 100% ... they're done ... you've seen all the Pathfinder ships you're going to see.

When the mining status hits 100%, the scenario "ends" and you are presented with the option to continue your current game or move on to a new one.
Oh thank you that is good to know.
Is a shuttle enough to go on such rescue missions?
I suppose i will need to go rescue some people.

I had just started to ignore the messages because i have no ship and just kept getting spammed by them.
it is a shame they dont"wait" for you... although i can understand the idea of the immersion
The missions are done via one (or more) shuttles. Load up your team in the shuttle(s) ... select the shuttle(s) ... and click "launch away mission" to see the list of available missions. You can also see missions on the star map.

If you have just one shuttle, you will get a warning about flying off in your only shuttle (as no shuttle will be left behind to transfer goods, etc.) Early on, I just did the missions anyway. I mean, since I'm taking most of my crew I wouldn't be able to scrap derelicts at home anyway. I did add a second shuttle to stay home pretty soon though.

All missions (except the bases) expire ... but it's pretty generous (12 days or so). It's worth looking at the star map and seeing where the missions are ... missions on the far side of your orbit will have a 2+ day travel time. I tend to wait on those until my orbit brings me closer.

Most missions have to be done in one shot, so go well rested. With one exception (Mining sectors) there's no option to eat/rest during the mission. Base missions can be revisited as many times as necessary, but I never put that to the test.

For most missions I took 1 shuttle with 3 crew so I'd have an empty seat should I find a new crew member. Others have mentioned claiming shuttles from the mission ship. I never thought of that so I never tried it.

For bigger missions like the "bases" I'd take multiple shuttles and two or three teams. Since shuttles can only carry "10" items ... more shuttles means the ability to bring back more loot, but I found one shuttle sufficient and just took the 10 "best" loot items.

Mission types:
-Alien infestations are a good chance to get crew. So I typically just take 3 shooters.

-Bot attacks can get you scrap ... there's often a cargo shuttle there you can load up with loot and send home. I think maybe a low chance of finding crew? I generally skip these missions because I can get scrap/loot at "home" doing derelicts.

-Rescue missions (boarded by pirates) take a full crew (well, unless you want to take prisoners). The objective is to "free the crew" which has been taken prisoner on their own ship. I always kill the pirates, but I think the only condition to win is to set all the prisoners free. Reward is cash (although you can also pick up the pirates' weapons for use/sale.)

-Assistance with a mission ... will be just a "normal" NPC ship and a couple derelicts and they want the usual (retrieve and item of interest, etc.) ... I never bothered with these as they happen frequently enough at home.

-Bases ... these are the "boss fights" and destroying the base will stop those pesky aliens/bots/pirates from intercepting ships. This is good and bad. For example, if you take down the alien base there will be no more "infester" intercept missions so there goes one source of crew. Plan on being heavily armed and/or having multiple teams for bases.

-Secure the mining sector. These are part of the "story" and a little unique in that there's a small station with food/beds/medical for you to use to heal/rest. So you can kill off some of the bad guys and retreat to the station to recover and reengage as needed. (Don't tell the devs, but you can also loot supplies from the station! I steal all their power cells!)

I say try them all at least once. Find out what types of missions you like best!
hmm do you think base size, crew size, days elapsed, your stronger/weaker rating, etc. play a role?

because my experience is nothing like yours, even "help us!" rescues need 3 shuttles, 9 or 10 badasses and 2 or 3 seats free in case you meet anyone along the way worth bringing back....

the pirate base this run was ~30 guys most with laser rifles and plasma rifles and clusterguns, took 12 weapons 7+ badasses and still lost 2 of them, even playing tactically and setting up kill boxes and letting them come to us...

it must scale. but I wonder on what metrics?

No idea. But I don't believe it's just days elapsed. In my first run I saw some scaling ... all of a sudden the "alien infester" missions were much larger ships. However I never experienced that in my second run which I felt I played basically the same way (I even had a larger total crew). Maybe my base wasn't as successful/popular or didn't offer as many services?

With the exception of the bases, I did everything with a single team of 3 or 4 (1 rifle and SMGs in the beginning, lasers later).

I'd posted a thread asking when/how the difficulty scales ... but no definitive answer yet:

same here, up til somewhere around 3 or 4 builds back, they were pretty static, they did vary but not much; and you could pull off most with 1 shuttle, 3 guys and an empty seat, but build 10 through 13, somewhere that became much harder...

yeah therein lies the problem, the station is ~400 days running, 72 crew in 3 shifts of 24, 30 combat bots, 6 missile / 6 energy turrets, 20 starfighters, and covering nearly every free square of a 3x3 allocation... whatever's the basis of the opponent scaling, nearly everything is end-game levels of death on my side, so it's appropriate, I'm usually +16 stronger than each huge ship that flies in.
Thank you again for the elaborate description.
I gotta be honest, most of that went past me for like 30 hours now and i am just enjoying being to myself with my base and only in the last few hours started providing services.

Might have to do another run, at the latest when the Gamemode releases officially and then also take the quests more into mind.
lol it's fine, we're hypothesizing why some away missions are easily doable with small attempts, one shuttle, not even full of troops... and others require 2, 3, 4 full shuttles of top-end guys to survive much less win the encounter... as they do vary; wanting to figure out if it's just RNG luck, or based off of something... though as you say, it is an unstable beta build, what's happening now might not be the way it happens tomorrow. 🤷🏻‍♂️
