Space Haven

Space Haven

Enjoying it very much.
I know it's experimental and things will change after collecting feedback from players.
I for one don't have many bugs to report so far or requests for adjustment.

I just want to convey that this station mode is so much fun to play. I played hundreds of hours in the spaceship era and as a compulsive hoarder i perfected the way of maximising resource collection by pitting other ships against each other, avoiding ship to ship combat, letting them burn their crew in boarding parties and then taking over their ship, looted everything not bolted down firm enough.

Now in this station game i can't do that. I HAVE to make choices what to loot in away missions. It was driving me nuts in the beginning. Started off sending one shuttle to missions so i was limited to only 10 units of loot and no room for any survivors unless i would find a spare shuttle. But the extra shuttle was no garantee. So asap i used two suttles per mission for extra cargo and room for new people.
Still, 20 slots isn't always enough so choices, choices.

Also i send my best gunslingers away on mission of course and the ones with partypoppers in their holsters are left to guard the fort. Typically during such an away mission is when a shuttle with pirates decides to pay a visit. The unprepared tactical combat between vicious pirates and my partypopper squad was legendary.

Sickbay became an imporatnt part of my scrappy outpost. So i decided that medical beds was the first service i could offer to other spacecrafts.

The first customers soon arrived and were greeted by members of my crew vomitting alien spores. The visitors layed down in the med beds placed for convenience in the food cultivation area. Hull and infra blocks are on the low at that time.
After their treatment they gave me a zero review. I let the crew celebrate that milestone of our first review by giving them access to the storage with the purchased beer for special moments like this.

This was just a small glimpse into my current playthrough as i am fumbling my way through it.

I have to point out though that in station mode i much more leave the game on the default slow pace and i watch them stooges doing their thing than i did in the spaceship plays.

Also the star map .... oh my god ... it rotates. It escaped me in the beginning and when i noticed it i was flabbergasted. I so love it. You can see the various events closing in on you on the map, or rather you closing in on some of them.

It just amazes me what the devlopers manage to squise into such a small game. It's one of the best purchases i made on steam.

i want more, more, more hahahaha.

On the starmap you can check if there are any rogue bots, pirates or alien infesters are moving towards you.

Yeah, I also needed some time to realize that, but it's not unimportant. I even waited a while to do a mission and then only needed three hours to send my shuttle because it became so close. Checking the starmap from time to time can really give you an advantage. Don't send away teams when enemies are closing in for example. You will also know if resource-rich asteroids are ahead etc.
it really matters with build 13... you see a big gap of nothingness on your orbit ring coming up? get in those last-minute trades with the visitors before they warp out, you might go days without supplies; nary a derelict or floating rock to mine from, just you and the vast darkness awaiting what comes next.
Indeed. The starmap plays a much bigger role now. I was a weee bit slow to understand that at first. Puts an extra layer on planning and preparation.

I take it that as your reputation grows and your services expand that there will be more traffic heading your way ? Also most likely draws the attention of the less savory types ?

Unlike the spaceship starmap you can't just shift in reverse and head the other way if systems ahead are not to your liking. You have to face it whatever comes your way and grab the opportunities that come within reach, if willing and able of course.

It's just great.
that's the plan, I would guess... whether or not it affects anything right now? don't know. just like being a gun runner is supposed to draw bad guys or good guys or some angry faction who wants to either rob you or wants you to stop arming all of outer space to come after you, but I'm sitting on ranking 100 and no one's got in my face about selling guns. I've sold to cultists and androids didn't shoot me, sold to pirates and MA didn't shoot me, guess it's a future feature. it sure is hella profitable though!
I'm glad you posted this, OP, so I can hop on the praise train. I am really enjoying this new game mode! Thank you for implementing this, devs!!

I hope we'll be able to go back and forth between ships and stations. It might be nice to just alternate. Right now I'm on my 2nd system with my first and only playthrough of this beta.

I took 30+ crew. :P muahahaha. it was brutal. I did not take the right supplies. lol. More specialized cargo shuttles would have been useful. it was actually pretty frustrating b/c crew were constantly trying to grab nonexistent oxygen from mining pods and not completing jobs (like building desperately needed oxygen generators). I only lost 1 crewmember to the cold. I had dozens of mental breakdowns. So many firestarters. But we survived.

It's an epic game mode!
