Civilians stealing my loot?

I jump into a sector with a derelict and a civilian station. The station asks me to go clear the derelict and get them an item off it, so far, situation normal, I’ve been through this a few times.
Accept the mission and send my troops over, as I’m about halfway through clearing the derelict, I get a message that my shuttle has been hacked, I go look and it is undocking itself from the derelict and two civilian shuttles are waiting to take its place.
They unload 8 civvies into my combat zone, who mill about uselessly. I finish clearing the derelict, claim and unload the cargo shuttle that was attached to it, the derelict now shows as player owned so I setup the transfers of everything back to my ship, and tell my guys to salvage everything but the hull, restock my shuttle and my guys load up and bunch and head home…

Then the civvie shuttles dock and the station starts loading up and stealing all my loot.

WTF?

If I so much as touch the item I’m supposed to be taking to them with a drafted crewman, they threaten war, I have to be very careful to stand my crew on top of the quest item, and undraft them, so they take it over and complete the quest. But the civvies can just sweep in and steal thousands of credits of my claimed loot from my claimed derelict? I don’t see any way to protest this or tell them to stop in comms.

What am I supposed to do?

Do not unload the cargo shuttle on the derelict.
Build a cargo port. -> Claim the cargo shuttle, then send it to your Cargo port.
Unload. Civilians cannot touch your loot.
(If i understand correctly this is your issue.)

Derelicts being shown as player owned/android owner/civvie owner etc. only show that it has been cleared by that faction. There is no other meaning.
Claiming a derelict(when applicable) does make it yours though.

yep, even multi-faction claims jumping happens. civvies want those logs, MA wants their personnel back who got themselves glued to the walls... you go in hard, shooting and freeing captives; and suddenly more than your shuttle is interested in this wreck. you finish, game pauses so you tag everything and undraft the boarding party, start grabbing everything not nailed down, but those so-n-so's do it too, running to the nearest airlock transfer point with your goodies.

wanna know something funny? if you tagged it for transfer before they nab it? at the end of the looting and stripping, if you go back to the derelict's transfer panel, you'll see a few things still flagged with 0 amount, that should have fallen off and not be visible. cause you tagged them to be moved, but, now the game can't find them for you, those jerks helped themselves. you can SEE what they took, that way. dude I needed those 2 infrablocks. you guys suck. trade me! what? what do you mean you don't have any infrablocks? you used them already!?

And this folks is where the Pirate Faction came from. Folks got tired of other folks salvaging their claim, so they started using their guns to make the claim thieves become even more claims.
