Space Haven

Space Haven

half of my crew is homosexual. Are you serious?
Holy Mother of Science™, the game is good but it pushes the homosexual sailor stereotype too much. Only 2.5% of the male population is homosexual but on my ship it's more than 50%, even if half of the crew are women. If it is intended as some sort of cringey redditor's joke at least do it right: if your ship has an all-male crew the percentage is higher than 2.5% and the homosexual characters assume a new trait called "happy sailor". Characters with this trait take control of the jukebox and play Village People's song "In the Navy" all the time. They have a mood boost from it but the rest of the crew hate them because they are tired of that damned song.

Did you make a new Steam profile just to post this?
Better to start a new thread instead of posting in the mega thread. Now you made sure you get your fix in the spotlight. You're so special.
The cult has arrived.

Nope, in another thread someone did a code dive, and basicly it seems the crew members are all the same considering sex. The difference between sexes is only visual.
Best just to turn off relationships. This way Lovers and Enemies apparantly will be removed.

Is it laziness? bad coding? Or political ideology?
Let me just make sure I understand this, you're asking a developer spend time so they can cater to your politics?

so, having coded crew members that are all the same considering sex and where the difference between sexes are only visual is driven by political ideology...

Just leave it. It is identity politics, we are not adequately ideologically educated to understand this:)

dunno if blockname is an alt, but he's been at this a while, from '23 (diff game):

"Yes, it is "woke". It has a lot of the "new left" talking points inside it. It is basically a game written by reddit for reddit and I must admit, it has some top tier reddit moments. It is full of socially awkward moments and I'm not talking only about the romances.
...
western society is collapsing, it is far beyond redemption, just laugh while Rome is burning and enjoy yourself to death."

so take him at face value,.. anyway, he's consistent, be he that other dude's alt or his own person. (or another person's alt, who cares really? I mean, does it matter? it shouldn't.)

re: cater to users, sure, why not? can't be that much work. and with the amount and frequency this is gay thing is brought up, it's becoming a bit distracting unless you try to actively avoid it or block people, and it seems pretty dumb. some people like peanut butter, others don't. they're not asking you to ban peanut butter from existence, they just don't like it and don't want to see it.

I would not be surprised at all if BB just went and did it, make a distinction simply to short-circuit all the drama associated with it, so we can all get back to playing, and any time it comes up afterwards can be shut down with a word. "settings:.

don't like it? do? it's a toggle, set it however you want. you want interspecies transhumanists who took too much alien goo starting to levitate and survive in vacuum, with an urge to stick people to the hull walls? toggle it! want furries? it's all under options -> game settings! (actually that's already a mod, re: furry, so forget I said that.)

if not, hey maybe we can ask the furry mod maker to do it? furries are one thing, but gay furries? now that's a line I won't cross! :possession:

you read all my posts? I'm honored...
who is BB?

Bugbyte:P
(Also Steam allows to check post history. With a few well selected keywords you can find what you want.)
Didn't really notice. Of all the things in the world to worry about, this doesn't even register. There's other things to think about inside the game.
I would personally prefer the absence of identify politics and wokeness in my games...

But over 100 hours of gameplay and I just learned today that crew had sexual preferences. And really only noticed gender because of the naming conventions. Its a non-issue here.
Imagine being so sexually insecure you care that much about what hole a digital construct likes to stick their imaginary reproductive organs into.

the game is really good, I've played 50 hours so far and I feel like this was just a tutorial. I mean, it has been in development for 10 years...

Or perhaps it is you projecting your inner thoughts at someone else.

There are people who simply don't want to play as homosexual characters.
There are people who simply don't want to play as heterosexual characters.
And there are people who do not give a rat's backside about this.

Trying to fit everyone in a box never ends well.
When the so-called "lovers" function was implemented, that was the point when Space Haven lost my support.

Sure, there's an element of plausible deniability to it, like saying that the game doesn't differentiate between male and female NPCs (although it clearly does, because they have distinct sets of sprites). I take it as yet another game going down the SJW path, introducing unforced social controversies into the gameplay, and creating a rift in its audience.

Whenever developers take deliberate steps to insult a huge chunk of their fans, they should expect to see a reaction from the players reflected in the sales of the game. In my case, I regret having supported the game early on, when it still didn't have this homosexual gameplay "feature". It was a lesson to me not to support a game until it's fully released, when there won't be any more odd surprises like this.

This is a management game though, you don't play as a character at all.

This is impossible because any fictional society you craft will register as identity politics to some of your players. Only having het relationships is a political stance, as is not having relationships at all.

Dude, that was 5 or more years ago. And now you come ♥♥♥♥♥ and moan about it ? Really ?

Other games ------> way. Go knock yourself out.
