Low gpu usage
Hello,

I am getting low gpu-usage when playing this game. I tried to set up a custom resolution, extra anti-aliasing in the far cry menu, turning down the graphical options all the way to low, but nothing works. My gpu-usage sticks around 40 - 50 %, while it reaches 99% in almost any other game. It is not my computer, because in other games I get 99% utilization, except for this one. I think it has something to do with my ryzen cpu. The game is apparently not designed for ryzen CPUs. I read posts, saying that far cry 5 also wasn't optimized for CPUs with more than 4 cores, so it's probably the case with this one too. Does anyone have a fix for this?

I am having the same issue with an i7-7700k and a GTX 1080 Ti. My GPU usage fluctuates between 70-80% to 45-50%.

The Dunia engine in Far Cry 5 is so light weight on the CPU-end of things that the number of cores doesn't matter. There is literally a gameplay analytics thread in the game used to record every action you do so they can track bugs that eats more CPU than the actual gameplay. That's how truly unimportant CPU is to the performance of the game, they can afford to make the thing collecting gameplay info (that most games do not use, by the way) eat 4x as much CPU time and performance is unaffected.

GPU requirements are quite low as well, they do a good job managing overdraw.

I can't speak for this game, I bought it on Xbox One. Same engine, so I assume all of the technical analysis I did on Far Cry 5 still applies here though.

What you just commented has nothing to do with the original post. My case is the same, I'm getting 50-60 fps with around 40% GPU and 50% CPU usage. My fps cap is at 75, my monitor is 75Hz and the picture just feel wrong, my eyes are Yoyo-ing from it. Also I have freesync which supposedly should make everyhing smooth even at 30 FPS. Yet even 60 is choppy. I bought that hardware because I want as much fps as possible. I don't care what others think, I spent my money now I want use it.

Has everything to do with the original post. Yours is the unrelated post. User just wants higher GPU load% and that will only come about if they run the game at a higher resolution or turn the graphics settings up.

EDIT: Or buy a less powerful GPU, I suppose. One of those will do the trick for the OP.

idk if this helps, i'm playing on a rx vega 56 and a ryzen 5 2600. With SMT on, all far cry games [3, 4, primal,5 & new dawn] perform pretty bad, when i turn it off i see good frame rates but to get the utilization to 99~100% i need to use vsr and play the games on 1440p

You realize this entire thread is a joke, right? Increasing GPU load% does nothing of any benefit to anyone. The entire thread is a comment on how efficient the engine is.

How is it efficient if he get 50-60 fps only, with 50% usage?

If all you want is higher framerate, turn off VSYNC or use FastSync.

I have a ryzen9 3900x 12 core processor and the game runs like a top compared to others i dont have any issues getting 75 fps smooth and if i turn off the vsync i get insane framerates as well so i am gonna rule out your 4 core theroy

stupid comment that misses the point

I'm at a complete loss for what the point of this thread is?

You're angry because the game's not GPU-bound. I've been performance patching games for years, and this is the craziest thread I've ever stumbled into.

If you want GPU load% to go up, you either need to increase the framerate beyond VSYNC limits or lower the GPU clocks. But neither is a goal that any sane person actually sets out with.

I have a low GPU usage too and this is the only game i play with this problem. GPU (RTX 3090) stays at 55-60 % max at 1440 p, vsync off. I am not CPU bound (9900K a 4.8).
I have tried everything with no success (even tried with rebar on/off).

still no luck? Had alot of fun in this game but the extremely poor performance on 3090 is ruining the experience
