It's kind of mediocre unupgraded and certainly bad compared to most non-starter cards, but like Neutralize and Zap it's an incredibly strong upgrade that you should strongly consider if you don't take something like Thunderclap, Shockwave or Uppercut early. Spending an extra energy to apply Vulnerable generally pays off after two attacks before it wears off, damage-wise, and Ironclad is made to be able to take the 2-5 damage this often leaves you taking when you only play one Defend that turn in early act 1.

It looks and feels really damn crappy and makes early Ironclad having the worst deck out of the three until you realize it's the best starter card (competing with neutralize) vs Gremlin Nob and somewhat Lagavulin. That feature justifies it's existence.
It's a crummy card, but necessary nonetheless.

Chad has paper phrog btw fam. Multiply with strength and things start to look exciting.

Like, upgraded inflame heavy blade goes from 43 damage to 50, reaper heals more, feeding is easier, and you get to strip an artifact (inefficiently) for disarm if nothing else.

Bash gets you through act 1 a lot easier than it would be without it. Just keep an eye out for those pesky sentries with their artefacts.

I hate those Sentries so much. The Dazed cards just clog up your draw pile and waste so much time.

For dealing with the Sentries, you kinda want card draw and attacks that target everything. If you, for example, get Evolve and Feel No Pain as the Ironclad, the fight becomes trivial as the dazes end up protecting you.

I'd argue it's much more beneficial to have high enough single-target frontloaded damage to kill an outer sentry on turn 2 so you're never in a situation where you need to block for 18+.

That's ideal, yeah, but it's also good to acknowledge backup options in case you don't get something like that.

Also, if I can show a new player the positive effects of exhaust, I call that a win.

Vulnerable is really good, in general. Early Bash upgrade isn't bad, by the way. 3 stacks of the stuff lasts very long and makes that 2 energy worth it. However, once I get Uppercut or Trip I usually try to remove Bash, especially if I hadn't upgraded it earlier.

Sentries are the easiest Act1 Elites, because they are consistent and don't punish you (as hard) for turtling.
