Disappointed. Should I play more?
Hi all.
This is my first Ys game ever. I was so excited for it but now that I finally brought it I feel so disappointed with the story/game progress. Is it all "explore the same island and find survivors to build your camp" plot like in the beginning or should I give some more time to the game so things get more excited? I know that quite a few RPGs take a good while to really "start to be good", so that's why I'm asking if it gets any better. I was expecting more interesting missions and locations for example.

The locations will get quite different and (IN MY OPINION) the plot is really good, but only really starts in chapter 3. You will continue to explore the island and find survivors, but it will not be the main point anymore.

Definitely does. Keep playing.

There are a few interesting areas later on but besides that nope it doesn't really get much different (i enjoyed the first half way more than the rest) and you only get most of your abilities right at the end when it's too late since the game is so linear in exploring...

Just don't point out any flaws or people will say it's "fine" unless it's game breaking it not an issue and for the love of god don't point out any flaws with all the cutscenes/Dana or they will hop on that like they defending their freedom.....

Still prob one of the best new gen games since it was originally on handheld where they care about gameplay and not about good graffics...

Why do you always need to point that out ? lol.
You appear on every thread of people not liking or not being sure they like the game, just to point out your dissatisfaction because you argued with people about what you didn't like in the game. Clearly, you're just being annoying and I'm sad that you can't keep going. You're sticking with your angriness instead.

OP, it's your choice if you feel the need to stop playing or keep going, it might get interesting enough to you when the plot will be more consistent. We really can't decide for you. I actually enjoyed the hell out of this game from the start to end, I actually might replay it at max difficulty.

I think he's genuinely upset that he's the only person who thinks that having cutscenes ruins the game, and he's hoping that if he keeps going on about it, eventually he'll find somebody who agrees with him.

Anyway, OP -- for what it's worth, the Ys games are not usually story-heavy. Ys VIII has a stronger story than most, but it does take a while for it to get more complex than just "explore the island and find survivors." Keep going, it'll pick up eventually.

The story focus picks up once you get more survivors and head up to the mountain.

I was like you when i first bought the game. it is slow pace and the problems before all the updates didnt help my expierence but i stuck with it and in my opinion its one of the best storytelling Ys game. it takes awhile for it to get good the island has some wonderful and beautiful parts you should definetely see. stick with it. i know its hard but the game does get better.
Nope May 25, 2018 @ 3:12am
Chapter 2 is all about rescuing survivors, when chapter 3 start the story will shift the focus on the mystery of the island (rescuing is shift to exploring part which is optional)
Tenko May 25, 2018 @ 3:19am
yes defintely play more, you will not regret it! just wait until you meet :ys_dana:
Podmon May 25, 2018 @ 9:53am
Chapter 2 is a bit slow due to the game entirely focusing on exploring and finding Castaways, Chapter 3 is short, Chapter 4 is where the thing are starting to pick up.

Honestly, I don't know if you really should go on. Yes the story gets better later, but it won't become something mindblowing.
I love the Ys series and in my opinon the main draw is the combat. You don't seem to enjoy it that much, so maybe play something which you will get more fun out of. Not all games are for everyone.
Warrior of Right May 25, 2018 @ 3:05pm
As people mentioned the story does really pick up later but by then it might be too late and you could be bored, wanting it to end like some of us.
Keep playing if you got the time and nothing else better to play as this game is much longer than past Ys.

Why do you guys always have to point out my pointing out things and add childish stuff like lols and emotes at the end? ROR

No i am actually posting relevant stuff to the topics and just Warning them,
clearly you guys complaining about others complaining posting nothing relevant are just being "annoying".
(this is what you bums choose to respond to instead of the other posts we make asking for info or help)

So you are sad that you thought i wouldn't keep going but you tell the guy that he could just stop after paying full price for a game?
What are you talking about i am still going through and am almost done the game why do you think i'm here?
Don't just buy games full price and stop playing them, was also modding the game and much more than you care to do.
Not "angry' at all as you all people that can't ignore keep trying to dismiss valid criticisms with.

No that's not the only problem with the game
(just one of these issues isn't that big a deal it's all them put together)
and when someone else has an issue that not related to me at all they still say it's not a problem at all and try to justify it with nonsensical reasons....
(but way to try and make it about soley me and over simplify)
Also way to ignore another issue i just brought up where you unlock everything way too late into the game.

You said it yourself Ys games are usually not story heavy and don't have massive amounts of mundane cutscenes, sorry i played through them all recently and find it a little odd they went so heavy on the filler instead of putting it into the gameplay as there are many castaways besides Dogi that could have been playable teamates but instead they waste resources on constant one time scenes, 3 fighting styles on 1 character that can only be used in small sections....
(also one of those styles has really fast movement speed which would of been much better suited as an ability for Adol that has acces to most of the game and map but keep passing it off like it nothing just because this game isn't as problematic like complete trash like most new gen games)

Maybe you guys don't care but i bought this game planning on 100% it, replaying it multiple times years from now.
Aletheia May 25, 2018 @ 5:14pm
How does modding a texture make your point revelant ? You're clearly missing the point. You're just bragging about things that were said when you complained about extra cutscenes and gameplay sections. Even if it's filler, how is it bad ? Oh, because it was breaking your immersion ? Damn dude, you really think your point is valid to everyone, even if people tried to bring arguments to your complaint.
Yet you still warn people "oh no something's bad has been happening to me, be careful about what you say" just to befriend people, how hilarious.

You're actually no better than Vayne.

I'm telling OP to do whatever he wants, he actually complained about the story only focusing on castaways, and it's just the beginning of the game. You, instead, just complain about things that help the story getting interesting. Just because they were placed at certain points of the game, and you don't like this, doesn't make them bad.

Eh, the story does get quite good. Its understandable that a series known for its combat attracts people not as interested in story, but I dont think the views of someone like that on the matter of story weight as much..

I disagree. Vayne's posts are atleast comfortable (and sometimes funny) to read. I rate his posts a lot higher then Geis's.
