TUNIC
Seriously the worst parry mechanic I've seen in a game.
Not sure who thought such a long windup was a good idea for the parry, but they were so very very wrong on that. I'm not even sure what the point of making enemies flash before they attack is. It's certainly not so you have any idea when to parry. Enemies typically flash like a half second before they attack, which in most games would be your cue to parry, but here the flash is like a whole second late because of the insane windup on the parry.

Just, why?

Parry can be useful on certain enemies that you can predict attacks for, but this mostly means "enemies with single attack". For bosses this is rather useless, since they can actually use drastically different attacks.

Yeah, it's certainly not the easiest thing to use. Hence why I basically never use it.
You can get by just as well without ever bothering to parry, although if you *can* get it down, it can be a huge boon.

But at the end of the day, I honestly don't see the use. :epiwtf:

Hard disagree. You can destroy The Scavenger Boss by parrying after the sprint-and-swing which makes the timing super obvious. You can finish this fight in under a minute just by doing this.

The windup is not great. The timing isn't just slow but awkward and is hard to feel the right moment for it, but the reward is you don’t get hit, you deflect projectiles right back to enemies which does A LOT even in boss fights, and you get to do extra damage, as every hit does a bit more when the enemies are stunned.

After somewhat getting a feel for the timing I can say it works, and it trivializes some encounters if done right consistently, but I still think is extremely hard to pull and awkward to time.

I really enjoyed Tunic a lot and thought it was quite the gem of a game. I'd have to say the strongest criticism is the parry mechanic. It's straight trash. I even spent some time trying to get the hang of it but I gave up. It's more trouble than what it is worth so I just didn't even bother with it.
It's so bad that it almost feels like it only exists to fight a single enemy in the game. The guys that stand in place with the long body shields. Other than these guys it feels like the parry mechanic isn't even worth bothering with.
When I did try to use it I ended up taking so much more damage than just pretending that it doesn't even exist.

I really enjoyed this game, but I have to be honest and say that the parry mechanic in this game is quite bad. It's probably the biggest knock against the game. I'm surprised that it never got a patch to change it somehow. Even and overhaul or even more tweaks to the timing. It's just so bad.

It would be nice if it actually got worked on and overhauled with a patch to make it actually worth using in the game. Out of so much polish that this game has it is like the parry mechanic never got that same level of polish.

If the dev team ever reads this I hope this gets passed on. This game really does need even more polish to the parry mechanic. It should be easy to patch too. The easy way would probably be just letting the timing window be more forgiving. The other option might be more of an overhaul to the mechanic somehow.

Either way I'm kinda surprised it never got a patch to change it. It's quite bad in an otherwise awesome game.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and guess that you're not supposed to be able to parry everything. The developers want you to learn enemy patterns and figure out how to exploit them instead of just parrying everything if your reflexes are fast enough.

Parrying works just fine against ranged enemies like fairies and autoturrets. Doesn't really have to work on everything since you have the option to roll or reposition. If you want to use it more, use the card that upgrades the parry window.
