If you want Square Enix to see your message, contact them directly, or their Support crew.

Nobody reads these forums.

If no one is reading the forums on the site where a huge portion of their sales are coming from (basically the hub of PC gaming), they don't deserve a fraction of the sales they received.

the developers, publishers and directors don't have time to read these forums. There is a steam community manager for each game for a reason and whos to say that said "community manager" hasn't already brought these issues/proposals up to the development team but they can't move forward without concent and support from the publishers?
Not gonna happen. Denuvo has no linux version and emulating it doesn't work.

Actually not true. Rise of the Tomb Raider, Far Cry Primal and.... drumroll NieR:Automata works in Linux despite Denuvo.

See this thread on the WineHQ for more information: https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=40631
Seriously they have not bothered to patch this game for 4 months now? Do you really think they care about anything, let alone those 0.5% players who care about linux? I am am part of those 0.5% let me make that clear but forget it. There will probably never be a Linux port within the next 5 years. They would probably rather refuse to give the sourcecode for the game to someone outside then let him do a Linux port for free.

I will not buy any square enix game again.

Emulating Denuvo works fine. It's modding Denuvo games that's impossible .... oh, wait ;)

Finding accurate information about Denuvo....... that's what it was. I knew it was something. Something about Denuvo is impossible. Just ask the OP, he likes to contribute to this problem in a big way.

Wine Is Not an Emulator!
Far be it from me, but I subscribe to the following school of thought:

If it quacks like a duck, but isn't a duck, it's an emulator.

It may have the world's finest implementation of artificial duck vocal cords, it's still not a duck :)

You know, I never realized the name has such a funny history:

The name Wine initially was an abbreviation for Windows Emulator. The phrase "Wine Is Not an Emulator" is a reference to the fact that no code emulation or virtualization occurs when running a Windows application under Wine. "Emulation" usually refers to the execution of compiled code intended for one processor (such as x86) by interpreting/recompiling software running on a different processor (such as PowerPC). Its meaning later shifted to the recursive acronym Wine Is Not an Emulator in order to differentiate the software from CPU emulators. While the name sometimes appears in the forms WINE and wine, the project developers have agreed to standardize on the form Wine.

"In today's news: Windows 'WinE' Emulator just woke up and noticed that it was, in fact, not an emulator at all, despite the statements made by its parents during its upbringing. The resulting identity crisis have sparked an international crisis, as users all across the world wakes up to a completely different world, unable to handle a crisis of this magnitude.

Windows Emulator, or 'Wine Is Not an Emulator' (or WINE for short) as it likes to be referenced as, was not available for comment."

Edit:
Would you call the Linux Subsystem on Windows for an emulator as well?

I'm not familiar with it to any great degree. But if it's implemented down to the level where it begins mimicking the Linux kernel, I would say yes... if on the other hand, it's simply implementing various APIs and standards such as pthreads and POSIX, perhaps not.

I think it's foolish to say there's no translation going on because neither Linux supports the Portable Executable (.exe) format, nor does Windows support ELF. Code may not be virtualized, but address relocation, different ABI calling convention details and other stuff that I would consider pretty substantial does happen.

It's a highly interesting read. This[blogs.msdn.microsoft.com] is but the first of a series of blog posts detailing the various aspects of the subsystem.

There's also this page with a ton of presentations on it: https://blogs.msdn.microsoft.com/commandline/learn-about-bash-on-windows-subsystem-for-linux/
On the other hand, this is just a dialectic argument :)

It is stated in wine's documentation that wine sometimes stands for "Windows Emulation". At this point, it's just the definition of "emulation" that we can't all seem to agree on. And I'm fine with it as long as we know how it works anyway ;)

So, back on topic: I would love to hear an official statement wrt. this. Square Enix? Icculus? Anyone?
