Captain Mining and Refining without needing to keep giving orders?
So I was hoping I would be able to tell me mining ship to go mine, then when full go and refine it, But it seems all I can do is tell it to mine then it pops up to tell me its full at which point I need to tell it to go mining again.

Before I believe there was ways to chain commands is there something I am missing or is this just a QoL oversight with the new update?

Working as intended, the game devs wanted the player to be a more active part in the mining process.

"Since it's been coming up a lot: The old mine-refine-loop was a ♥♥♥♥♥♥, garbled mess of code that was an unreliable performance hog. The new mining operations are meant to replace that. Infinite income from mining vessels w/o interaction is not how we imagine the game."

Then maybe they should make it more interesting, mining is the most boring part of the game.

Granted just discovered the new option in the galaxy view where you give an area and send a ship to go mining for x amount of hours regularly receiving shipments.

Sure, but in my experience the amount of ore a lv2mining captain can bring back is insufficient to even cover ship wages

Yeah, in my testing I sent out a ship to mine on the adventure map. I also sat in a ship as it piloted around a system. My taxi driver gets 5-10x the amount as the other one.

So MAYBE late game it's worth it, but for early game it's really bad.

Ehhh... I mean, before, yes it would be automated when I set up my enchained commands, but the systems would be stripped and then I would have to move on. I was at least involved. In the new setup, there's even less interaction than before - you just click a button, dice are rolled, and you twiddle your thumbs for 2.5 hours.

It's especially bad at the beginning, when you're weak and you don't have tons of other things to do other than wait for mining to bolster your resources so you can build larger ships, buy modules/weapons, etc prior to tackling other challenges.

The refinement mission will not delete local mining orders, so the ship will immediately return back to work. Use that instead.

In the current beta, it looks like you have to issue refining missions every time the ships fill up. Find a good mining sector, dogpile all your mining ships inside, and set them to work.

My own thought and hope was that the new update would enable a lot more automation and actually make setting up an empire that operates automatically more of a possibility.

Sadly it doesn't seem like that is the case.

I think the dev's are trying to actively stop automation to increase player engagement.
unfortunately this has led to me sitting afk for half the game while i'm taxi'd about in autopilot >.>

Yeah it seems that way, just a shame really.

The game has some really good 4X aspects already with the asteroid/satellite building, captains, ai etc but it just seems that they have made half the 4X stuff grindier and less worthwhile, they could just embrace it but sadly they seem to have gone the opposite direction.
