Hamachi or other clients like that are not required. If you both have Steam, one of you can start a galaxy (it has to be a dedicated server via the Dedicated Server Tool, or a game started in the multiplayer option with Host Game) and the other one can join him directly with the Join Game option of Steam (rigth-click on name in friends list).

It doesnt work? I launched a dedicated server, told it to launch my save and set all the stuff, my friend found it just fine its just it says unreachable, we have tried about 5 different ways to play together but every single time it doesnt work?

Yes everything from both of you will be saved in the galaxy that you are playing on.

The unreachable server is most times just a networking error. Did you check that Avorion and its server process are not blocked by a firewall and/or virus scanners?

Your firewall/virus scanner should have a option where you can see blocked applications, some even allow you to regulate in what kind of network they are blocked.

I found avorion on the list, it was enabled for both private and public...

Can you do a trace route between the server::client?

Sounds like you haven't forwarded the correct ports - or to the wrong internal LAN address. Is your internal IP static?

And as other have said - you do not need Hamachi or similar VLAN software for this. To be honest I have lost count of the number of people that use it thinking it will solve all their issues when in reality it's hardly ever required (and causes more problems) unless you play older games that the online portion of the game no longer works for it.

May be worth a look:

Why not?

Dont have access to the router.

Seems silly to ask at this point, but why not just get access to the router then? Problem solved. To be fair, without access to your own router you could encounter other times/games that are going to cause issues for you. Many games that require dedicated server require port forwarding of some kind.

When I say I Dont have access, I mean I dont have access. No buts, not what ifs, I just cant. Dont ask why either, its out of the question.

And having to deliberately portforward just to play with your friends is rediculous. They should either use a hosting program like Hamachi or just have a functional multiplayer built in. They cant expect everyone to have access to their router and ALSO know what to do.
