Haha yes that was my problem initially, I just thought it was another trading module. Had one for days before I actually figured out it was something different.
As a hardcore salvager, it really does help out a TON in gathering drops that would otherwise have been missed (at least money and ores that would eventually disappear, the upgrades and turrets don't despawn now). Oh, and they appear to stack! I have a legendary and an epic currently slotted on my primary ship.
I still like the original idea of adding a magnet, only for scrap metal, though. Have it draw small wreckage chunks together into an area that you can quickly zap through with salvage beams.
