Enemy of my Enemy

My Enemy of my Enemy quest is bugged to a point but I'm not sure if it's broken the quest line as I've never done these quests before.

I did the usual thing, get duped by him and find the chief engineer then gather the resources, then when I return there is another friend to talk to. I got the item from the first friend but nothing else happened so I collected the stuff again for the second friend and when I return there is a THIRD friend. So now I've two items and the quest seems to be a loop.

From my cautious (trying to avoid spoilers) research, I can ignore the friends and just go to another smuggler's den and do another quest for Bottan and continue from there. Is that correct?

Edit: On closer look, this probably should have gone into Help and Troubleshooting. I'm sorry about that.

On the first go round I forgot to arm the artifact and he natuarlly escaped. All you need do if you got the item is find a hideout to start the devlivery quest which gives you Botans location for delivery. Just don't forget to install the item before you start talking to him and choose to disable his warpdrive.
