Fly into a pirate area and do nothing to keep them neutral. Wait until a faction sends a fleet to fight the pirates. The last pirate that gets destroyed will drop the building knowledge item and you can pick it up.
One titanium armored ship with 5-6 bolters can clean up pirate sector.
10 bolters can kill single pirate ship in one burst.
Kill pirates in titanium zone, loot more bolters and systems and repeat until you can eliminate pirates in naonite.
Other way is get rep by sell/by resource in resource depot. Every resource depot have cap +10k.
Sell 50k iron - buy 50k until recieve +10k rep. Fly in other depo and repeat.
Torpedos can also be a godsend now that theres such an abundance of them, and most ships wont really have much in the way of PDCs in that region. You shouldnt need a fleet, depending on your difficulty ofcourse, but bolters definitely do wonders early game.
Just remember that you can always fly away in the sector for some minor regeneration if need be. If your ship is fast enough, you can make them stop following you if you can get 100km-ish away. Not sure if leaving the sector affects the knowledge drop chance or not.
