In 'normal' you need to unlock all the building knowledges from Naonite and up.

In classic you have all the building knowledges, but you'll still be limited by ship founding costs. E.g. if you need 500 Ogonite to build your next ship then you're out of luck if you don't have any Ogonite.

------

The other thing that knowledge ties into is ship size.

I.e. in normal you won't be able to build anything over 5 sockets until you unlock Naonite, which lets you go to six sockets, and then it's two more sockets for each step up until Avorion which lets you build up to 15.

What that means is that in normal there's a rather narrow band of ship sizes which 'make sense'. I.e. once I've unlocked Trinium (8 sockets) it doesn't make any sense for me to build a ship that is only 5 sockets out of Trinium.

(NB: if playing with rifts then different considerations come into play for end-game content, so those rules/suggestions might lead to different conclusions)

-------

I never play classic because unlocking building knowledge is kind of fun, and it's not particularly difficult. And you can do it pretty much organically as you play through the game (by killing pirates you probably wanted to kill anyway).

(If nothing else (i.e. some kind of self-imposed pacifist playthrough??) just build an economy that ♥♥♥♥♥ out money and then buy it with credits) ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

(Typically) the reason people struggle with it is because they're ignoring what the game is telling them.

E.g. the game tells you you can unlock the knowledge by clearing a pirate sector, but if you're fighting pirates and the game is _also_ telling you that you need to be closer to the center of the galaxy, then clearing _those_ pirates isn't going to _ever_ drop the knowledge you want.

One of my very early playthoughs (pre-2.0) I was still scared of everything and so I saved up to buy a size 14 High Oriflame Dreadnaught (Iron and Titanium only) and then rofl-stomped everything. It was fun. But once I learned more about the game I realised I didn't _need_ to do that, Then for a while my go-to mini death star was the Crimson Damnation, a size 8 pocket battleship (again Iron and Titanium only in the base model). Which also turns on rofl-stomp mode.

The game tells you what you need to do to get the knowledge chip.

Then when you have the knowledge chip you need to find it in your inventory (the one under player not ship) and double click it.

It will guide you ... if you let it.

i got iron and platinium but not others

I think you need to clear a pirate sector no more than 375 radial distance from the centre.

NB: go to the missions tab, click on the naonite knowledge mission, and then push the [] button (actually it has at least three bars - the one that looks like an equals sign with a few more strokes)

Now on the side of the screen the mission TLDR will float above your piloting UI. This will tell you what you need to do (e.g. if it's telling you to fly closer to the centre then killing the pirates in your current sector will NEVER drop the building knowledge, no matter how much naonite you've found.)
