Operation exodus will have beacons scattered across the galaxy in most hidden sector asteroid belts (or at least a LOT of them). Make sure you have found a pair off X and Y coordinates that share a number (I don't mean the coordinate number, but the set number). Once you have a set, go to that coordinate and look for a new beacon there. It should give you a NEW pair of coordinates and a 2 symbol code fragment. Go to the next set of coordinates, talk to the new beacon and get the second 2 symbol code fragment. Input the 4 symbol code into the panel and it should open a warp to the final sector. Talk to the new beacon to finish the quest.

It is the second "slowest" quest in the game and is intended to be finished over time. Once you have a pair of coordinates, send one of your captained ships on a "travel command" to that sector while you do other things. When they get there, jump to their ship for that part and then re-send them again. This way the majority of the time is spent off-screen while you're being productive in another ship somewhere else.

The other slow quest is the one to find the smuggler. You have to find a smuggler sector first (not hard, but you have to know where to look check hidden sectors in the "empty" spaces between factions ). Then you have to do their job (it's a long travel time, so you need decent jump capabilities). Then you have to meet someone who gives you a "shopping list". It's that list that's the issue. There is a search function on the galaxy map to hunt for factories, but you may not have found all the correct ones. OR you can send a merchant ship on a "procure" mission to find the goods, but this will either take a while, or it will be expensive, or it will be both. Then you have to do another smuggler mission to finish. Not *hard*... but tedious if you don't know about where or how to acquire specific goods.

Travel commands (with significant cooldown, really important and many people miss that cooldown makes travel command much much better) pretty much trivialises those two quests. Scouting helps find smugglers (search for 'smug' on the galaxy map). Scouting also helps with the shopping sub-quest.

Energy Inverters can be found at many turret factory suppliers - a significant change from earlier versions which isn't well documented in the wiki. But you can now straight up shop for all the components (a significant speed-up) for that part of the game.

Even with OBSM these quests aren't too bad. And if your playing a fleet you can just delegate one of your minions to go do it. (At least the travelling portion of it)

This is what the Procure command is for, so you don't need to manually look for that junk.
