Is boarding useless? (even more than salvaging in my previous question, lol)

I mean stations generally.
I've fly back in iron sectors for capture some station and sectors... And founded that boarded stations are turns in "defunct station" and do nothing.
Ok. It asked 500k of iron and some credits for repair. I've paid. Still defuntion. The only way is re-founding... And it's damned MAKE NO SENSE at all!
'cause i just can buy station on the shipyard and pay the same amount of credits for it.

It’ll probably net you more resources and cash capturing it then destroying it via build mode than to just outright destroy it and salvage the husk.

That said, I hear ya. Not what I was expecting when I first tried it out and felt a bit disappointed.

I am not sure why boarding is so unprofitable, forcing the player to repair the ship/station before doing anything with it is just a money and material sunk.

I am not sure but I think you can get more cargo if you capture instead of destroying, but then, you get a damaged ship/station, and you cannot even get rid of it by deleting it without the game forcing you to repair it first.

You could bring the ship to a scrapyard, but half the time the game will say that you cannot edit a damaged ship, so adding better engine or hyperspace core is not really an option.

I hope the devs will rework the boarding

Hm, Stations were never useless for me (at least not in the Avorion area). Captured a big smuggler outpost (~80mil hull+) and earned like 1-2 billion + the profit of the cargo from it.

@ghost so how did you capture that? How many attack ships of what type and size etc? How many boarders? Can you give tips please? I have captured some ships but every time I tried a station it gets destroyed by my attacking ships before the battle has begun maybe if at the outset of a station attack we could flag as capture then all attacking ships would know the orders to leave it alone once we can board.

Yeah, you need to get it down to 30% health before you can begin boarding and from the couple I tried, I seem to remember it taking hundreds (maybe close to a thousand) boarders to take it. Unfortunately, you will want the rest of the fighting done by that point for exactly the reason of your own ships continuing to auto target it.

But to me, the reason I wanted to board it was so I could capture and use it myself. That didn't work so well.

Like FuryoftheStars said, you have to disable the shields and get the health down to under 30% then when you have 1-2 squads of troop transporters in your hanger then you will see that their icon on the left side (where your fighter squads are shown) will change and you can give them the order to board the station. All you have to do then is to wait until the fight is over.

In my case I've attacked/boarded the intended station only with my mothership which had around 2000 attack troops on board. Took them around 10-15 min to take over the station.

Btw, it's not needed to keep the shields down after you've started the boarding process, the troops will continue until the station is yours or your ship is out of attackers to send to the station!

To prevent you guys from it to ask, yes my crew costs me like 3.5mil each 3 hrs but that's okay since I can make 1-2 billion in less than 15min. It's rather simple how I did it when you think about it ^_^
