weird party weapons?

So i've been playing for like a week now and had my combat ships in a sector patrolling while I upgrade my miners when all of a sudden now when they shoot pirates their weapons make a confetti sound and throw all kinds of rainbow colors and twists out at the enemy, I don't think I installed another module to do it or anything, Is it avorion's birthday or something? I don't mind the confetti, i'm just confused.

It's a new weapon the devs added in 2.3

It's literally called 'party popper'. It has the weapon icon of a railgun but has one slot.

The damage is respectable, but the sound is so annoying I avoid them on any of my main battleships or their escorts.

Feel free to liberally sprinkle them all over your miners or traders though.*

You used the railgun called Party Pooper. Despite the numbers its a terrible weapon as it shoots mroe like a shotgun than a sniper rifle.
