So here's the conclusion. Each factory has a hidden and unique seed value that will determine what bonuses are rolled in a given sector. A specific factory will only have one possible roll of bonuses for a specific sector, regardless of moving it around and bringing it back. However, any additional factories will have a different roll of bonuses for the same sector. This means that building multiple turret factories in the same sector is not necessarily a waste.

This is especially a problem when you consider that to capture a station, you're sitting on top of it running boarding shuttles back and forth with your butt flapping in the wind. It's too bad that we don't have some kind of teleporter device that could be used to- oh right. We do. And the boarding shuttles are forced to be common quality and iron, putting a very strict limit on their stats while still taking up space in the arbitrary ten-squadron-maximum list. Overall a complete failure of design, needs examining by someone who plays the game.
So you go through the effort of boarding and capturing a station. It's now a defunct station that cannot be scrapped, modified into a smaller size, or basically anything until it's repaired. If you decide to repair it there in space, it's going to cost an arm and a leg. If you engage transport mode and can actually get it to a repair dock by strapping it to the hood of your ride and flooring it just to get up the ramp, it's a more-reasonable price, but you're still needing to fly a full-sized station around that only has 2% of its normal HP.

It's a very frustrating experience that's generally not worth the amount of time, effort, and actual cost involved in pulling it off.
Edit: and of course when I actually get the defunct station back to my home sector and park it next to my repair dock, another station decides that it's blocking its docking lane and immediately pushes it away with tractor beams. It pushes it right into the repair dock, breaking parts and coming perilously close to wiping out that remaining 2% HP. Ahhhhh.

And why is this pirate saying, "This is illegal!"? The only authority in the area, me, already sent myself on a mission to kill him and his buddies. Plus he's a pirate.
