Building a sector through boarding stations
I'm planning out how I want to end up with a bunch of stations at 0,1 or 1,0 for the maximum tech level effect, but I'm running into a few unknowns. Rather than founding a whole bunch of stations there myself, I was curious if I could instead takeover existing stations from an empire outside the Barrier and transport them all the way in. Perhaps even more importantly, if I were to board a turret factory and relocate it for this purpose, would it keep its original tech level or change it based on its new location? Any shared advice or experience with regards to this would be appreciated.

Tech level is based on current location. Picking factories up and moving them around to see if you can get better blueprints is definitely a known thing.

I see, thank you. What's the limit to that for rolling better blueprint bonuses? Do you just need to move the factory around inside the sector, or do you need to jump it out to another sector to re-roll? And are those blueprint bonuses re-rolled every time like jumping back and forth between two adjacent sectors, or are they based off the sector coordinates?

And if you don't like that, there is a loop command mod.

What does that have to do with this thread and topic?

Did some testing and experimenting and found some interesting results. I built a turret factory at 1:0 and it had the expected tech 52 turrets. I built another turret factory in the same sector, and it had a completely different roll of bonuses. I moved that second turret factory to 1:1, and it rolled a completely new set of bonuses. However, when I brought that second factory back to 1:0, it had the same roll of bonuses that it had the first time. I then took the second factory back to 1:1 and it had the same roll of bonuses it got the first time in that sector.

So here's the conclusion. Each factory has a hidden and unique seed value that will determine what bonuses are rolled in a given sector. A specific factory will only have one possible roll of bonuses for a specific sector, regardless of moving it around and bringing it back. However, any additional factories will have a different roll of bonuses for the same sector. This means that building multiple turret factories in the same sector is not necessarily a waste.

On boarding and conquering stations: this feature is extremely poorly implemented. Even with overwhelming force, I'm talking 1.5k boarders against 20 security, it will still tick down only two to three defenders lost every time.

This is especially a problem when you consider that to capture a station, you're sitting on top of it running boarding shuttles back and forth with your butt flapping in the wind. It's too bad that we don't have some kind of teleporter device that could be used to- oh right. We do. And the boarding shuttles are forced to be common quality and iron, putting a very strict limit on their stats while still taking up space in the arbitrary ten-squadron-maximum list. Overall a complete failure of design, needs examining by someone who plays the game.

So you go through the effort of boarding and capturing a station. It's now a defunct station that cannot be scrapped, modified into a smaller size, or basically anything until it's repaired. If you decide to repair it there in space, it's going to cost an arm and a leg. If you engage transport mode and can actually get it to a repair dock by strapping it to the hood of your ride and flooring it just to get up the ramp, it's a more-reasonable price, but you're still needing to fly a full-sized station around that only has 2% of its normal HP.

It's a very frustrating experience that's generally not worth the amount of time, effort, and actual cost involved in pulling it off.

Edit: and of course when I actually get the defunct station back to my home sector and park it next to my repair dock, another station decides that it's blocking its docking lane and immediately pushes it away with tractor beams. It pushes it right into the repair dock, breaking parts and coming perilously close to wiping out that remaining 2% HP. Ahhhhh.

Did you buy a parking permit?

My stations are issuing bulletins in my name, but where are they getting the money and avorion from?

And why is this pirate saying, "This is illegal!"? The only authority in the area, me, already sent myself on a mission to kill him and his buddies. Plus he's a pirate.
