I cannot find any tutorials on torpedoes. Are there any?

I dont know if there are any tutorials for torps but i can give you a but of help with them (to some extent).

You need to mount a torpedo launcher on your ship first and foremost. the higher grade of material its made out of the more torpedos it can have in its *ready rack* of sorts. This is the supply of torpedos it can fire, with short intervals between each launch. when building a launcher onto your ship, it needs to face 90 degrees to the angle you want it to travel in with relation to your ship (Theres a useful indicator line when building them on). this will give you a launcher able to fire torps - you can assign it a fire group key the same way you'd assign a turret a fire group (a number key to activate and deactive the launcher (i'd recomend having them deactivated until your certain you want to fire one, then tab it on, click, tab it off.))In its current state you wont be able to load it.

You require torpedo storage. Its another block similar to a cargo bay but only for torpedos, you'll need to add it to yur ship somewhere. Again, the bigger it is, and higher material its made of , the more you can store. Then comes aquiring some torpedos. you can definitely buy them from most mid game and late game area equipment docks and i've seen a few early game ones selling torpedos aswell, but their type and yield varies a hell of a lot (as does the price). I tend to keep a large stock of fast torpedos that are cheap and strong vs shields as my main capital ship is armed exclusively with railguns, so shields are my issue, yours may vary.

Assuming you have now torpedos in storage that you've bought they need to be loaded into the tubes. You do this from one of the ship menu tabs (i think next to fighters). you just drag and dropthe torpedos from storage into the tube, and then they're ready to be fired. you can begin to refill storage once torpedos are loaded into the tubes - they dont count as "in storage" when loaded

Then comes firing and usage.Depending on the torpedo you selected you may wish to fire them at different times during a fight but the main principal stays the same. The flight path of the torpedo outlined when you added the launcher should be as close to being aimed dirrectly at the target as you can. Torpedos will swing around if they miss and have some range left, but they are likely to be shot down in this time and are unlikely to hit a target on a second attempt (They will also detonate for 1/2 damage if it is a very near miss). This means that you need to be careful when firing them. If you select a target thats dead ahead of you and the launcher fires in the right direction, tab the tube on, fire (click), then tab off again. They tend to have a long range and the AI hasnt proved overly good at shooting my torps down. They should hit the target unless its a rediculously wierd ship design with gaps in the middle nd maneuvring at speed. The tube will then reload the next torp in the read yrack to fire (about 4 seconds to do so), meaning that if your spamming the mouse key with the launch tube active, its likely that you'll empty the tube VERY fast. And depending on your choice of warheads, that may be an expensive mistake.

It is possible (but i dont know how/havnt worked out) how to make torpedos but someone will need to clarify that for me. If so then that may present an easier, less credit intensive way of rearming after using them all.

Either way, i hope this helps.

By moving your cursor over a torpedo and then pressing 1-0 on your keyboard you can quickly load torpedos from storage into launchers #1-10 quickly. You can also do this from launcher to launcher. No need to drag and drop to arm them. However I think you need to drag and drop to move from launcher to storage.

TYVM !!! I needed this! :steamhappy:
For me I got to ask more questions and be PATIENT for that answer. Maybe I would enjoy my games more.

Again, TY

Right clicking a torpedo in the launcher will move it to storage.

Correction: With Torpedo Tubes, size does not matter. It is irrelevant. I've made tubes that are very small and they have the same size *ready rack* as a large torpedo tube made of the same material. But, yes, material does matter. For example, torpedo tubes made of Naonite have a *ready rack* that can hold 10, while torpedo tubes made of Avorion have a *read rack* that can hold 22.

As such, I make my Torpedo Tubes very small. This not only saves on weight, but it makes for a much smaller target that is harder to spot and/or hit. (Of course, I have several Torpedo Tubes surrounded and separated by armor. Only the exit side must be exposed, which has a tiny cross section.)

Correction: With Torpedo Storage, material does not matter. It is irrelevant. But, yes, the SIZE of the block does matter. (That makes Torpedo Storage the opposite of Torpedo Tubes in terms of what matters. One is material and the other is size.) I've used the transform function to transform my Torpedo Storage into various different materials, but the amount it can store does not change.

Logically, one could get by with making their Torpedo Storage out of Titanium or Trinium to make it very lightweight without impacting one's torpedo storage space. It also means a savings of higher-grade materials that I can use for more important things. Since I have my storage (and most other internals) protected by a layer of armor, the lower HP should not make much difference.

P.S.: When adding Torpedo Storage, it may help very slightly to make the end result divisible by 3. (For instance: Having a storage of 21, 27, 60, 69, etc. may help avoid a bit of wasted space.) This is because most torpedoes have a volume of 1.5. There are a few that have a volume of 2.3, but I don't see myself using them very often.

For example: A ship with a total torpedo storage of 20 will allow storing 13 torpedoes of size 1.5. (13 x 1.5 = 19.5.) A total storage of 21, though, would allow 14. But, a total storage of 22 would still only allow 14.

eh i think i got close enough to the right stuff :3

So... do the torpedo bays need to be a certain size to accomodate a certain volume torpedo or something? I was going to add some torps today... and I have no idea how large to make the damned launchers. Do they need to be rectangular? Can they be a square? I mean... damn... does it matter at all?
Sekkquitor Apr 20, 2018 @ 7:11pm
Past reading indicates keeping them as small as possible. Use torpedo storage bays for additional torps.
Itharus Apr 20, 2018 @ 7:15pm
Huh. So it doesn't matter... that feels really weird somehow.
Sekkquitor Apr 20, 2018 @ 7:17pm
If you keep the launchers small, they are more difficult to hit. They still hold the same number of torps depending on the mats they are made from
Sekkquitor Apr 20, 2018 @ 7:18pm
Just make sure the end where the torps are launched from remain clear
Itharus Apr 20, 2018 @ 7:31pm
If you're buying torps can you put them direct in launcher or do they have to go into storage first?
Sekkquitor Apr 20, 2018 @ 7:44pm
I thought you could load the launcher and torp bays. But be warned, from what I am also reading, you could break your bank using too many torps or getting your ship destroyed with a great many of them loaded.

Where do I get them?
BOYCOTT Jul 26, 2018 @ 3:22pm
torpedos biggest disappointment 2018 once you realize that they do stupid amounts of damage but are also easily the most costly thing doable ingame.

why can't we manufacture these like drones? surely a torpedo isn't more complex than a fabrication machine can handle and we know from the way drones are produced resources are certainly not finite.

so yeah, what gives?
