Turrets explanation : Increasing the size of the cannons also increase their range & damage?
Hello guys,

I bought and started the game a few days ago, so I'm still a noob ...

But now I have an existential problem, and I need someone who really knows the game to answer :

-Does increasing the size of the turrets also increase their range & damage ?
-Does it increase their electrical needs ?
-Do i need to buy the small/medium/big ammo now to feed them ?

Please i need an answer to this question, i already made some big titanium turrets but it looks like that everything is the same ...

... And i dont understand, their size are 6 or 5 time bigger than the normal little ones.

So if everything is the same, why should i build turrets then ?

Please, i need an answer, im lost ...

Thank you in advance for the answers :steamfacepalm:

Yes.. Size is equal slots that turret will use. More used slots, more damage, but not only this.

Range, material, rarity, tech, specislties, material used to build the turret, amount of goods used to build a turret, everything will make your turret powerful of not.

But it's random, sometimes it will be OP, sometimes not.

You don't need to buy ammo to shot with cannons. All weapons have unlimited shots. They will only heat, and you need to wait a time to shot again.

Aha !

So that's why it "looks to me" that i did nothing when i build the big turret on the ship building menu ...
So it does nothing ...

Idk if it's a "placebo side effect", but they look like that their fire range was increased ...

Turret Mount blocks are decorational. You can place any turret on them, as long as it is not larger than the dimensions of the block's surface. At best, it can suggest the size/type of the turret intended to be placed on those mounts, but you can place a tiny PDC into a massive artillery turret mount, and it will look like massive artillery operating as tiny PDC.

Turrets themselves are not affected by anything beyond potential power requirements. They also do not NEED turret mount blocks, as they can be installed on any flat surface of sufficient area; You just wont be able to modify their looks.

Turrets require no ammunition. Ammunition is only used for crafting turrets via Turret Factories.

Deeper into progression, you will encounter turret items with larger size and turret slot requirements - those will have overall better stats, but will rotate/track slower.

Okey, so sad.

I really thought that we could make via the Research station or Turret plant, our own turrets with their own stats, almost immediately, and choose wich techno do i gonna use (laser,gatheling,canons,bolters...).

Well, thats the thing about Avorion - while you're playing, you're rolling through thousands upon thousands of procedurally generated turrets. At first, the difference between them do not cause an issue, mostly because early ships dont need and cannot field a lot of them.

When you reach mid-game, the variety of turret stats and types together with the increase in ship subsystem cap will make it a bit uncomfortable to use them. Then you simply can choose the best turrets you've found so far for the types and stats you prefer, bring them to the Turret Factory, transform those turrets into blueprints, and then use those blueprints in the same Turret Factory to craft as many copies of those turrets as you can afford.

Different turrets require different commodities, and you can acquire them either through trade, or by disassembling the turrets you dont need at Scrapyards... or by waging a war against a faction, that have stations producing them.

The only exception to that principle are rare "unique" turrets, which have very specific names and have very different stats and visuals compared to regular analogues.

Later down the line, you can accrue enough wealth to have your own Turret Factories (so that you wont need to pay crafting fees) and component factories to provide a steady supply of weapons for your fleet.

Turret factories also can craft by their own blueprints, and they come in all types accessible in the region a Turret Factory is located in. So yeah, you can craft specific turrets in bulk pretty much immediately, as long as you figure out the way to obtain components necessary.
