Can someone explain how torpedoes are supposed to work. I configured my starter ship to have one and went to the training mission. However everytime I fire a torpedo it just goes flying off some random direction in space, ignoring the wreckage I'm supposed to hit. How does one aim a torpedo?

Also for the dev's, in the torp training mission I went up point black to the wreckage and fired the torp, which blew up my ship and the wreckage. Now the mission appears bugged, when I returned the pirate was attacking and the trainer won't interact with me and I have no torpedoes.

You need to have the wreck targeted, and make sure when placing the torpedo block that the arrow for direction of fire is facing the correct way for where you want it to go.

Torpedoes have ♥♥♥♥ maneuverability and will still sometimes miss, so you want to be at least a few km away when you let it loose.

Actually followup question. Where does one get new torpedoes from? The torp trainer won't give me any more after I blew myself up with a point black shot on the wreckage, and the pirate that spawned appears immune to regular guns.

You can get torps from equipment docks and from one other facility too, but it escapes me atm.

I don't think Torpedoes really don't do anything and aren't worth the time, or effort you put into it. Also the torpedoes mission isn't the only thing bugged in this game. Try changing your home sector and see what that gets you. It's like a lot of the "info" the game gives you, worthless at best.

Torpedos are one of strongest things in game - just terribly expensive to maintain.

Load your ship up with launchers and fire all at once? Devastating.

Well, depending on how many PDs the enemy has, but 5-6 seems to work wonders for me. I mean you gotta have in mind that they do like 1 minute of your DPS with a single hit, so they are balanced by being relatively slugish and destroyable, and relatively hard to come by.

They work great against stations, since, you know, super-high HP unit which doesn't move and has no(or minimal) PD.

Game will only let you assign up to 10 tubes (you can place more than that in builder, but it’ll only use 10). Otherwise, as Fichom said. :)

I having same issue as OP. The torpedo doesn't target the wreck. If I target the NPC for the tutorial. It works fine.

torps are a waste off money and your captains on auto will waste them

why would you go point blank for a torpedo ?

Torpedoes can be expensive so just buy cheap white rarity ones and spam those. Yeah allies will just waste them on trash so its best if you use them yourself when you find a tough enemy. Shat I do usually is have 6 or more tubes with trash torpedoes set to the same group toggled on. These I shoot on enemies that take longer than usual to kill like hardcore enemies or ones resistant to your current guns. I have another 2 tubes filled with more expensive harder hitting torpedoes set to another firing group and only toggle them on together with the 6 other tubes only when fighting bosses. Also if you dont want to waste too much space on torpedo storage watch the sizes on torpedoes you are buying.
