This is EXACTLY what being an admiral of a merchant fleet would be like. Receive the trade report, then choose which option to execute. You wouldn't hear from them until completed or under attack.
Trade is immensely powerful when you focus on it, just like every other profession in this game.
Control... I want to control MY MINING CARRIERS, I want to control the stations and good MY traders are gonna sell... Now you just select an area, click one of 4 items, give them a down payment and click a button.. then passively make millions... a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ monkey could play this game now.. but sadly he would die of old age or BOREDOM before he got out of titanium.
I think it should be the other way around : an increased odd of being attacked (depending of how much you invest in the contract), and sendind escorting ship should be necessary to make these trade work, whereas simply travelling shouldn't increase the odds of getting ambushed simply because your commander is a merchant.
It's the games weird random (fake) economy the great deals have always been there to the keen eyed of us! the captain just see's it from the get go.
But yes the captain system is not finished and it shows as they do not interact with the economy properly i.e draining stock and filling stock at the places they are buying and selling, So infinite trades :P
It doesn't seem infinite as at some point I couldn't repeat the same trade even when selecting the exact same area. I'd like to know how it works though.
The imbalance seems to be the time it takes for the commander to do the trade compared to the profit you can make. It never takes more than 15 minutes/flight (which, when you invest a lot, will always be 1 flight anyway), which means that, at some point, you'll be able to make several millions every 15 minutes. Maybe it's the fact it's automated that makes it look so fast and efficient, but yeah now you really want to have merchant to earn money instead of selling iron and such, it gives such a huge boost.
There is randomness to products selection, trade with it and watch the station he's trading with..nothing happens.
