Is there a way to have ships mine a single sector and not a HUGE random quadrant?
So maybe I'm missing something obvious, but i can't find a way to get my fleet to mine a single sector: now they just shoot off in random directions over a huge area.

In early game with weak mining ships I feel the need to micro-manage their locations to keep them relatively safe, and also to mine specific sectors I've explored that have rich resources. However these new map control options seem really, really poor and I'm just hoping there's a way to move my ships around the way we used to (i.e. v1.3.7)

Please tell me I don't have to manually warp my ships into a sector and then warp myself into that sector and individually give them new commands every time i need to change sectors :(

Specifically the ship (A) needs a captain, and (B) you need to use the autopilot (it's a new menu - mine sector should be on there).

A lot of people find it counter-intuitive that the autopilot requires a captain but ... eh.

In the base game for 2.0, no you have to jump to the sector and give them the order there. Or you can use a mod:

Ah thank you! that's exactly what I was looking for.

also, WOW devs! just one of many 2.0 changes that are ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE

Not horrible, just imbalanced. The new system is lighter on the engine, and more interactive for the player and captain.

Well i'd say that's semi good news but it's definitely much less interactive for me. I can't control any of my mining ships very efficiently now and can only have them randomly hop around dozens of sectors for ten minutes without ever mining anything. I noticed the new hyperspace system and order loop system don't work for me some of the time.

example:: If I tell a mining ship to mine a quadrant, they'll hyperjump to a random sector or two, then freeze in place with a "cant reach destination" tag even though they are already in a sector with 2000 asteroids. I'd say I'm pretty unlucky because I couldn't get any of my ships to mine a single resource last night without warping into the sector myself and using the RTS commands.

I couldn't get ItalianMafiaGuy's Order mod to work this morning but I'll try again later.

Plus this won't be as much of a problem once I can build giant mining carriers, but I wish they wouldn't have removed such a wonderful feature. It really trashes the early game flow for me.

Save your breath, this is apparently part of the devs burning desire to make the game less fun as they update it.

I understand your frustration on this matter since I feel with you.
However, us disliking the changes which were made towards the AI orders is not equal to the devs aiming to make the game less fun on purpose. Yes we dislike these changes but spreading false information is not right. I do hope that they won't continue their performance optimisations trend at all costs.

I personally like most of 2.0's changes. However nerfing resource income 5x or so has been pretty hard to get used to. (apparently there was a bug where the old mining loop considered ships always in range of asteroids and always firing their lasers, according to devs this was causing them to mine 5x as much as intended). I'm playing a playthrough completely vanilla, but after will probably use mods.

Build a ship with a ton of mining drones send it out mining repeat until you have a fleet of 15 or more and you'll have more ore then you can do anything with to be honest. This game is not hard at all, and with the new system it has less risk and lag so to be honest I like it.

I don't know what situation caused this "bug", if its even real.

But the majority of multiplayer servers I played on were the exact opposite, and simply refused to render any kind of out-of-sector mining causing no resource income at all.

Seems much more like a convienent mistruth to push forward their "vision of the game".

If you where having out of sector issues, that is a sync issue, not a “convenient mistruth”. You should be bug reporting it.

I have bug reported many things, including this. It was on an officially verified server as a serverwide bug and it *still* got ignored.

Not ignored. Simply not fixed yet. Some bugs take longer to track down, diagnose and solve.

Such as the FPS-Turn bug, I guess. Which has eluded being fixed since V1.0 release when I started playing.
