Lagging in single player in new patch
For some reason my game seems to lag after updating to the new patch. Is this happening to anyone else?

Basically things "freeze" or "drift" for a while, and I am unable to really do anything until the game catches up.

This is how you get access to the beta branch (USE AT YOUR OWN RISK):
Right-Click on Avorion in your Steam list, Properties -> Betas -> Select branch 'beta'.

Hello, I can confirm this. It happens when you change the sector, or when you try to buy or sell to a station etc.

Since the patch I’m lagging a lot when moving from one sector to another. I play single player.

If you do the following the lag is very bad: start a game in single player, save it, host it in multiplayer, save it and now try again to play it in single player.
The type of lag I am getting is where all the AI flown ships just drift, I cannot give any orders, and nothing is taking any damage nor AI ships are firing back.

If I happen to be on the galaxy map, what will happen when I chain commands is that it doesn't register anything at all for a minute or two (no sounds), then "catches up" and seems to recognize everything I issued while "frozen" (and I hear like twenty commands issued in a second)

Hi, I'd like to fix these issues but I'll need your help! Type the command /profile into the chat (even in SP) and the game will start measuring update times for about 30 seconds. It will then save the performance stats to a file and output where it saved the file.

If you could send that file to us (via a file hoster as it can get quite big) it would help us tremendously to find and fix the issues you're having! You can send it to koonschi@avorion.net or post a link here.

I’ve been seeing this problem as well since 1.2. The client continues to run, but the single-player server stops responding. Asteroids stop taking damage, objects move and then abruptly jump back to an earlier position, and clicks on the galaxy map don’t register. On the galaxy map this also affects commands like “set coordinates” for your current ship.

Typing /profile doesn’t seem helpful. The server doesn’t acknowledge the command to benchmark until it resumes.

Same problem, me and my friends had to stop playing since our dedicated server is lagging badly since the last patch. Stopping all fighter-miningships as suggested in another thread did nothing.

I just had an instance where the game stopped responding to commands for about 70 seconds. I typed /profile and nothing happened. When it did come back, my hyperspace recharge time went from “fully charged” to “63 seconds until drive recharges.”

Some extra info: if you turn on the time frame graphs, the left one stops working when the lag occurs.
I don't know what this graph represents.

It appears that one reliable way to generate the halt is to generate a lot of sectors.

I just sent a scout ship on a 29 jump route, exploring a set of green blips. For several minutes the single-player server would halt every 10-15 seconds for 20 seconds. It’s still doing it now, resetting my hyperspace charge time from 33 seconds to 53 seconds.

Update: halts of 30-60 seconds are now commonplace. I really have to wonder why I’m still playing.

Sent the file to the email. Made combat after bowing up a shipyard very unstable.

I just destroyed all my ships except my main brick and everything is fine again. At least the 2 minutes route calculating and non-activating gates are gone.

I did a less drastic test. I cancelled all orders for my ships on remote duty. The server halts ended. Then I gradually issued orders. The more the remote ships were doing, the more often the server would halt, and the longer it would halt. This is new to the 1.2 update, since I had no difficulties with a much larger fleet in my previous game.

In any case, while you can avoid the problem by running only a single ship, that's not acceptable to me. Mining and salvaging are extremely boring, and I'm not about to start doing it manually.

I've shelved the game until this gets fixed.

Well, I now have all of them in my pocket as tokens so it's not that of a big deal. But yea, it's no real solution. Let's hope they find the bug soon.
