Sector full of containers?
Does anyone know the purpose of this sector? Saw a topic about it, but no one had any good info on it, thought I would open it back up. Thanks for any ideas or new info.

I blew up like a thousand of those buggers and there was basically nothing. Just the standard stuff that can sometimes drop from hull destruction. I think they are a placeholder or time sink atm.
I was imagining that too! Perhaps some new developer content, for testing purposes or otherwise.

Most of the cans are there just to dilute the possibility of you finding the couple of valuable ones by chance - you're supposed to go up to the field with an object detector subsystem and have that point out the ones worth poking for loot. Some of the valuable ones will be unlocked and can be opened just like any other stash you find, most others are secured and need to be hacked into, which is supposed to be done using a subsystem available in the Black Market DLC.

To get into secured containers without the Black Market DLC: put a docking block on your ship, dock to a secured container with it and take the container to a smuggler hideout. They can open them for you, and the contents are usually the same as what you find in secret stashes, only with 4-5 things instead of the usual 1-2.

As with any other container, shooting them will yield nothing beyond possibly the same random loot that appears when you salvage a wreck or destroy any other hull block, so don't waste your time if you haven't either the DLC subsystem or a docking block and the patience to drag them to a smuggler hideout.

Jesus christ, you guys are legit 5 years late in the response. Was wondering why my steam was lighting up with mail.
