Avorion basic Shipbuilding guide
This video will show and explain to you how to make a basic, first ship in Avorion out of Iron and Titanium. All needed parts and devices are installed and the ship is designed in such a way to allow for easy upgrading and expanding later. Special care is given to placement an thrusters and engines as well as turrets.

I like the approach presented in your video.

Thank you Warrax,

What has been your experience with ship design in this game? To which material did you get up to?

Hi Titan
I have been designing ships in Avorion for 2+ years.
I have designed advanced Combat ships and Freighters.

In my designs, I do not normally post builds with Avorion, as I will apply in-game changes to my ships after I pass through the Barrier.

Mind blown...

I need a moment.

hello Titans, great vid but i do have one slight criticism, you
1) only used a gyro for pitch, i would suggest splitting that and using one for both yaw and pitch
2) did not explain that the gyro is directional or how to tell what 'plane' it will affect

you can get yaw and pitch from thrusters up to a point but ... for me the gyro is very important for additional yaw

having said that its a great vid that is very easy to follow and covers all the basics with that one exception

Hi CaptRyder!

Thank you very much for that constructive criticism, I actually had 2 minutes of the video covering this point but since it was 2 minutes just to explain one device I cut it from the final version and decided to leave it for another video. Maybe I could have been more concise...

I will make sure to explain this in the advanced shipbuilding tutorial.

If you have any other useful and easy to explain tips feel free to write them here and I will add them in that next video.

Length: really good, when I read the post I expect to drop into a 45 minute video of someone rambling. You kept it short and packed with information which is great.

Music: subjective, but the beat made me stressed for a tutorial... this is the kind of music I expect to hear in an action montage, personally, I found it almost stressful as it felt fast-paced and it made me feel like I was gonna miss some pieces of information.

The montage: you're not using mirroring... your first example ship is... hrm... not exactly impressive. I don't personally mind, but trust me you'll be told it doesn't look good if you're using that as a reference for a montage.

Advice:
- "A few thousand titatium"
No, don't make people do this, to me if you use more than 1k titanium, it's no longer a starter ship. You're wasting time. Just make a nice tiny 3-slot thing and use titanium for: generators and turret bases (it lets you use titanium turrets, you suggested iron). Build a few and get captains for them and have them mine before you start a multi-thousand titanium build.

- "Armour is expensive"
Armour is cheaper AND lighter than hull for the same amount of hit points. Use it, but consider using thinner/smaller pieces.

- "Adding several cargo bays"
Tbh, even on expert mode, I don't get my cargo bays blown up unless I get killed at which point it doesn't matter anymore which approach you used. Cargo bays are more effective as one massive block. Also, why are your cargo bays getting blown up? Use integrity fields. Even my starter ships have full coverage. Integrity fields make your blocks 10x more durable, so having big chunky blocks reduces your chances of anything getting blown off.

- 4:00 "titanium is expensive and heavy"
What? It's more expensive than iron, ok, but it's much lighter...

- "Make engines out of several pieces"
See above about cargo. It's less important for engines compared to cargo but, again, bigger blocks are tougher.

- Thrusters
This part is mostly false. Sorry. You can block thrusters all you want and they function fine. In fact, there isn't even a penalty as far as I know. Directional thrusters are stronger than regular thrusters, but only provide thrust along one axis.

- 6:50
Are you talking about PvP? As far as I know, NPCs don't aim for anything specific. They target random blocks. Get an integrity field generator!

tl;dr: I liked the format, but this was premature. Take the time to learn the mechanics better before making tutorials.
