Resistance Ships Yes, Immune No
Why are some ships immune to a damage type, and then more appear as you destroy them.

I don't mind resistance, but immune no.

In my case its physical damage types, but physical damage causes impact damage and heat, but their not immune to plasma which is also heat.

Immunity belongs nowhere in this game.

I wonder if it’s a bug. I’ve seen images of ships being hit with physical and their shields saying resistance to physical, but them immune is flashing up.

A few ships in the game are immune to all damage but only until certain conditions are met. Pirate Captains are a minor Boss that falls into this category. I haven't encountered any non-boss ships that are immune to my damage on Veteran Difficulty. Is this something that is common on higher levels?

It shouldn’t be. Personally, I never ran into it, either, but I did see a screenshot not too long ago showing someone shooting a normal Xsoton with chainguns that had physical resistance on its shields and “immune” was flashing up during this.

This is a legit thing that has happened to me, Bounty for 50k. Pirate boss had immune to lazers, physical and other - couldn't do damage and couldn't run - wasted an entire playthrough

At least for the Pirate Motherships, they are only immune until you kill all the escort ships. Once they are alone, they become vulnerable.

There is a boss or two later that is invulnerable until you interact with some mechanic (look it up if you want spoilers).

There are indeed enemies which are flat-out immune to a damage type, and I do disagree strongly with that. KnifeHeart has a mod which removes this nonsense from the game: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2449198253&searchtext=immunity

It was apparently implemented to "encourage" (read: force) the player to mix damage types. For some as yet unknown reason, having only one damage type is somehow against the intent of the game, so we lose that too. The main problem with this is the turret crafting and drop system, wherein a player very rarely finds turrets of two or more damage types which satisfy all other requirements, such as range and damage. Essentially you will never find two drops of different damage types which are on the same general power level. With crafting, you may have more luck, but it's still rare to find different turret designs of approximately the same capabilities in the same region.

I see it as just one more method to control how we play. Thankfully the mod works to disable it.

Total immunity is a boss mechanic. Kill a few waves of the small fry first, then the boss shields will drop.

Some enemies have 90% damage resistance to various elements. Normally this is pretty much impossible to achieve on your own, it's just a dumb mechanic to make your designs useless against random targets.

Partially correct. There are bosses which have an immunity mechanic that is linked to the need to destroy minions. I have, however, seen 100% immune enemies which are not bosses in any capacity whatsoever.

Unless that was changed in a recent patch, the information posted above is still true.
