automated scrap collector and refiner
is there a way for a ship to go around, collect scraps left from battle and refine them automatically? feels wastefull leaving the scraps floating around in space.

Yeah. There's an order you can give ships with a captain to salvage. You can use regular weapons, but it's less efficient then salvaging lasers, which are less efficient than r-salvaging lasers (but require cargo bays for storage).

Edit: Sorry, should probably clarify that salvaging lasers (non R kind) are the only ones that won't require storage to use (they refine as they work). Regular weapons and r-salvaging produce scrap, which needs to be collected and then brought to a resource depot for refining.

Salvaging turrets set it up like mining with salvage order, refine, loop

they dont collect the scraps floating in space, the stuff that you need cargospace for, right? or do i need to install more cargospace for it?

Just thought I'd point out - mining has a better return than salvage, in general. I'd consider putting effort into an AI mining ship before I would a salvager, if you haven't already.

Far as I know AI salvage/mining ships cannot be ordered to pick up floating scrap/ore - but if their ship has the correct permissions (and cargo space) they will suck those up by flying by them.

Generally I agree with you, for materials and cash definitely use a mining ship. A salvaging ship after that is also nice because it'll also pick up the mods and turrets from ships being salvaged.

Is there a "loop" order I missed? I usually just set them to "salvage - refine - salvage" and repeat if needed. Would be nice if there was a smarter way.

There is, though I hear mixed stuff on getting it to show. Last I heard I think you need to chain the orders, give it a moment to start them (may have to release and repress shift), then there should be a new icon that shows. Looks like a stack with a loop arrow going around it.

Oh, found it. Thank you!
