noob warning - can't figure out how to add turrets
So I just picked this up as a Christmas present for myself. I downloaded a bunch of ships and a bunch of turrets, but can't for the bloody life of me figure out how to add any turrets aside from the two basic ones you start with! I can "spawn" new ship mods, but find it interesting everything I've downloaded so far has been unarmed. No big deal, but if I can't make use of any of these fancy new turrets I've seen, what's the point? I figured dragging and dropping or copy-pasting would work; apparently not. I've looked online and haven't found anything useful. Thank you in advance!

The turrets you downloaded from the workshop are cosmetic only. You will need to add a turret base block to the ship for every turret you wish to add. Once the turret block is installed, you select it, and click the little turret editing icon in the left menu. This will open the turret build options... you can then press the saved designs button (looks like a save disk icon, it's right under the build turret button you just clicked). Open the workshop turret folder and select the turret you want to cosmetically change to.

Once you have done that you will physically need to buy turrets from equipment docks, or destroy enemy ships to have a chance at acquiring them. This is the only way to acquire more turrets.

Tried that. Didn't help. Tried putting one of these cosmetic turrets overtop an existing one to no effect. This can't be normal, I must be missing something or doing something wrong here...

Neferdias's instructions are pretty spot on so I'm not sure what you are doing wrong.

Thats a screen shot of some cosmetic turretts. The transparent ones are turret bases without turrets on them. Once you place a turret on it it will become solid and use that model instead of the default one.

The only thing not mentioned is that the turret base needs to be the same or greater material than the material of the turret itself. The default turrets you get are iron, so they fit on anything.
