my workshop-folder is (always has been?) empty aswell, have you checked "Roaming\Avorion\ships" itself for the files?

Empty? Should at least contain your own ship designs, maybe its somehow been put to "read only"?

Do the workshop items download in Steam? There's a bar on the bottom of your Steam window where it says "X of Y items downloading" or something similar.

Workshop items that you've subscribed to, then unsubscribe and then resubscribe won't show up as a download a second time, they stay saved on your hard drive!

If they don't download in Steam then it's a Steam issue that we have no influence on.

I don't know if this will be any help but I didn't know this was an issue so I kept trying to mess with it until the downloaded ships showed up. The first thing I did was go to downloads on Steam and check to see if they had been Auto downloaded and found that they had been paused. After clicking the manual download button the ships showed up in my folder. On my brother's computer this was not an issue but his ships weren't showing up either. In the build menu I went to use a save ship. Saw a list of our personal ships but no steam downloaded ones. At the top left there was an icon of a folder with an arrow going up and to the left that said Steam Workshop ships. I must have spam click that 50 times and after each time I did it more of the ships would show up until all the ones I knew he should have did show up

They're not downloading for me either. I've tried clearing the Steam download cache but it didn't work.

EDIT: Okay, the downloaded ship are NOT appearing in my workshop folder but they are appearing in the game when I click on the "Workshop Ship Designs" folder in the game. However I have to click on the folder in the game a few times to get it to work. Very strange.
