How to repair your ship without ability to mine?
So is this the ultimate catch-22 situation. Technically you're still alive, the ship can fly but doesn't have the power (because you forgot to place armour blocks over the power generator) to run the mining lasers, so you're unable to mine the ore required to repair your ship. You have enough cash to buy the ore, but none can be found for sale in the system.

Possible options.

Insurance scam by ramming into an asteroid.

Re-load from back up that you just created before going in to combat for the first time and suffered the light but important damage.

Alway keep a stock of materials for repairs.

I don't know how the insurance payouts etc work. Does the drone de-spawn after building your first ship?

Any assistance or links would be very much appreciated. Game designs that give you very few in game options isn't a fun design. I want to like this game a lot as it has potential.

Probably pressing "repair ship" in build mode and than "discard broken blocks" is the best option. Than you can load your previous ship plan for that you have the resources.

Scale the ship down to something (or ore) you can manage and mine w drone and re-upgrade later, plus the options you already mentioned. Basically, always be prepared - sounds like your mistake was not adequately protecting your ship, thats not the games fault. Truth is, if you dont cover your arse and plan ahead - and end having to bust back to the drone and start anew with iron, thats pretty much all on you.

Thank you OndeTv - it was perfect. fly to platinum rock, turn off engines - obtain material - switch engines back on, fly to iron (I sold off the units I had, doh!), turn engines off and repeat.

I managed to get enough materials to add more platinum energy blocks and put armor protection on to it.

I'm enjoying the game so far despite the intricacies. I've overdone the engine somewhat as base speed is over 500m/s, but as in all games it's a learning process.

Mavor - how do you bust back down to the drone? Starting from scratch after a terrible mistake is something I'm very familiar with in other games. No certainly not the games fault - although the repair mechanic of requiring materials and cash is a bit odd. I'd like two options, all cash option or part material and cash as is the current method.

press T and launch the drone to do some quick mining?

thank you. I'll try that.

Unless something has changed, not all mining lasers have a power requirement. That being said, you can also launch your drone, build a small ship for mining, and destroy it once your are done and have reclaimed your moddules.

While I understand you can employ AI to fly a ship for you, I've toyed with the idea of having two mining lasers and two offensive turrets along with a salvager (salvaging seems to be more RNG based than I prefer in my game mechanics) and because the ship design can travel 500+m/s I can get out of dodge quickly when pirates or those pesky aliens start nosing around. Quick refit and back in to the fray if there's friendly ships around.

I jumped in to one system and there were a few pirate stations, one of which was being pounded on by the friendly inhabitants of the system so I stuck around for a bit and helped them grind through the DPS. I'm very greatful that ammo isn't something you have to purchase.

The next step for me is seeing what commodities etc are available to buy and sell and start making some trade runs, but I think that could be a seperate ship with cargo space. Although I think those are only good for making cash and I can't see the benefit of too much of that at my level or at least current awareness of possibilities. I know I can make stations at some point, so that's something to look forward to.

I wonder if there's a mod out there that could list the system entties a bit like the overview of Eve Online?

a note. AI ships are gun dumb and shoot everything they have regardless of what they are shooting at. guns on a salvager are not recommended.

Time heals all wounds, except severed limbs. i.e. as logn as its just damaged and not gone, your mechanics will repair it for free over time.

And also lower the cost of doing a full repair.

Shipyards also repair at a lower charge, that just repairing a ship

I see it was answered - yes, when I was first learning, there were a few times early on where I had to pop back in my drone and do a 'soft restart' on my ship. Dont worry, soon enough you'll get to the point where you're so damn strong, nothing short of a major asteroid impact will stop you =)

I've turned the impact damage to .25

It's not cheating if it's an option.

So reparing in a shipyard is cheaper than a repair station? Doesn't sound right at all.

Oh these were definately gone. I have since learnt the role that armour plays in holding your insides where they belong longer. Just a matter of collecting the ore quickly at the beginning of the game, although using what you have can give you that oomph required to mine more, faster.

Ahh that's a great tip thank, along with salvagers - what can you put on the +1 turret option then. This is quite confusing. I've also recently picked up a +2 turret points as well so I'll be looking at finding a quite place to hang out and re-design my ship. Is there such a place, or should I keep max speed around the 500m/s mark if possible.

To what degree should I spend on a dedicated 2nd combat ship, crew and materials wise? My seed has given me a bunch of wormholes to various points on the other side of the map, all around the outer edge of course, and mining up the third ore from the top takes a while. I'm guessing better mining lasers will chew through those lesser ores faster, as well as multiple turrets, again something I'm going to have find or otherwise procure.

I'm enjoying the learning process so far, even if the mechanics are shrouded in mystery and locked in an enigma.
