Need Crew and Docking Issues... HELP?!

Seems there are a lot of issues with this on the internet with a wide range of specifics. My specifics goes exactly like this... New to the game. Have watched countless hours of vids on Youtube of "How To's", and I can't even get past developing my ship completely and adding crew members. I did create a 3 block crew quarters for 25 crew members. When I successfully leave the Build Mode with my new ship, and try to dock at any of the two nearby stations (within 0 km and complete halt), pressing F to interact, getting the welcome comms and attempt to actually hire the crew I get this message *Must be docked to hire crew members!... Now, I only want to hire a handful of crew members at this time, so what's the damn problem?! I reported this as a glitch because it happens at two of the nearby stations. Can I get some immediate feedback from some of you Oldtimers to this Newbie? Any feedback will be appreciated. Thanks! :)

you need to build a docking port on your ship lol. how can you dock without a dock? Don't feel bad, this confused me too and there is nothing in the tutorial that ever mentions needing this.

was somthing change? i do not remember needing a docking port on your ship only on stations. from what i remember you have to fly to the dock on stations then press f.

just checked and i am right you do not need a dock on your ship just stations that needs docks. docks do nothing for your ship unless you plan to turn your ship into a station.

Just to save some more time on facts... I've read up that you don't have to be at a complete stop, if you are barely moving &/ OR you don't have to be actually docked, just in very close proximity... So, I still have this problem Docking & Getting A Crew. Any more ideas out there?!

You can't just be near the stations... you need to be by the astatine docking block. Look for the flashing lines of lights near the station, that will lead you to the docking port. It shows up as a green box on your hud when you get close enough. It turns solid when you are within range, usually at 0km away from it. Make sure you have the station selected or it won't show up.

Then do the "f" interaction to hire crew.

SivCorp, RIGHT ON!!! I could have used that just a bit earlier, but better late than never, and THIS will help others that fall into the same predicament than me. Found that out a few hours ago and just got done playing, when I decided to come back here and write to tell what I had learned on my own then saw you had hit THE NAIL RIGHT ON THE HEAD!!!... Quite literally THAT is what you gotta do here, "Hit the nail right on the head OR Thread the needle!" Very delicate stuff that I didn't expect at all, but once done it's a piece of cake I won't forget. LOL... 1.) Find an Outpost (Symbols) and Press Middle Mouse Wheel over it to Lock On from a distance. 2.) Once in extremely close general range of the bulk of the ship go towards the extremities or The Arms of the ship for actual Docking Ports. We have to look for the long ports/ posts on the outposts (or what SivCorp calls Astatines), Not the bulk of the ship but usually the extended parts. 3.) Continue to move even more slowly forward towards these and Push Middle Mouse Button AGAIN to help find and locate these Docks (Pick just one to hom in on as you do Not want to crash into the outpost!). ONLY once you are within 1 km of that Dock do will you see a little nub with a green box saying DOCK "F". AND YOU MUST DOCK to get any real interaction with the outpost! *You will get the "Same Greeting Message" as if you docked by pressing "F" for Interaction with a quick flyby and Not docking, but you Will Not be able to buy or sell anything until you dock correctly (period). --- A huge thank you again to SivCorp! ...That was 5 years ago. Get out more. Plus they solved it, and what your complaining about was, 5 years ago, told how wrong what they said was.

I had same problem. Middle mouse button to select station then docking shows up. I complained about the docking the thing for ages lol I hope you're doing better in game and good luck to you.
