Report a translation problem
I usually get it where I think it is close, place the block, select it and use F to focus on the block so it centers up in my view, and then I zoom in and look around a bit to see if I missed aligning. If it looks wrong, I select the block, Ctrl+C to copy it, Delete key to wipe it out, and Ctrl+V to paste again. You are then in placement mode with your previous block, so you can stretch in whatever axis you need until it is correct and click to place the now accurate block.
Takes just a little practice, but once you do it successfully a few times, you get the hang of it. And mirror mode is a life saver when you have a symmetrical ship with lots of complex angles and such!
I actully never mesed with the f key before. that will probably help a lot.
