Thrusters Can Be Covered?
I can't believe this is going to be the situation when the game is complete.

The ability to cover them is what lets you makes ships look half-decent instead of being stuck with plain sqaure glowing blocks.

Dev's stated he wants to leave players with maximum design options and is fine with them working as such.

But unless its too much of a large back-end investment I dont see why it couldnt be a server toggle option for those wanting it- definitely not first person requesting it.

Then don't build thrusters on the inside of your ship. Problem solved.

It's only an issue if you're doing PvP, and Avorion is really not being designed as a PvP centric game.

If you want an immersive reason why you can cover thrusters, then just assume that said ship has an advanced propulsion system that does not require exposed thrusters. We have shields and plasma cannons and hyperdrive, it's really not a stretch to imagine that we also have impulse or gravity drive too.

Agree.

I'm a hard sci-fi fan. Allowing thrusters to be covered turns this game more into a fantasy game. Yeah, I can pretend there's some kind of ethereal, totatally unrealistic force the engines use that can pass harmlessly through anything and anyone, it's just not my cup of tea. If you're more into art than science/engineering it makes for a good game.

Avorion isn't a hard sci-fi game. If you've played for less than 2 hours you can get a refund. Steam can sometimes issue a refund even after 2 hours if you feel the game is not for you.

I really suggest you look into a game more before you buy it! Try Space Engineers if you want a realistic-like sci-fi game. About the only magic technology they have is artificial gravity and jump drives. Thrusters can't be covered in that game, though it is a completely different genre of game compared to Avorion and there's not much to do besides engineering (no pun intended).

Thanks. I've already tried Space Engineers. Much more my thing.

you could look into Interstellar Rift the community is kinda bleh.. as far as multiplayer is concerned but , the game itself is rather detailed.

but its designed around multiplayer so ships are meant to be crewed by friends. an not played solo

OK. Will do. Thank you.

Maybe I'm wrong but I find covering thrusters does reduce their thrusting ability but not because your cover it but because the weight on the thruster reduces it's effectiveness

The added weight of the hull or armor blocks will do that.

I've played the game some more and it's very addictive. I should stop complaining. I like it.

Sci fi and fantasy are the same thing, fiction. I think you are confusing the world fantasy with implausible (which scifi has plenty of as well) or maybe using the terms fiction and non fiction as a replacement for fantasy and sci fi doesnt work?

That's why we like thrusters being able to be covered. It makes such awesome ship designs possible. Notice that its engines are just glow blocks.

If it'll make you feel better, you can always add "vents" near where your thrusters are and you can say that's where the maneuvering thrust is directed from
