Plans for the Hologram blocks?
okay so..i've read the wiki did a quick 10min search on this forum for hologram blocks..

and i have to ask...is there any practical purpose planned for these?

having Holograms seems like a nice idea, use them to cover up areas that might be weak points in your armour like hiding the Hangar openings, by placing holograms over them, in a pvp environment they might have a purpose in making your ship look bigger than it really is...but in PVE the seem mildly pointless. since the AI doesn't get intimidated by ship size.

i mean one idea i have for them would be to make 'hologram' ships that can draw fire from enemies, and with fake turrets to make them look threatening...perhaps give them some 'aggro' generation so that in PVE the npc will attack them , but they'd have no 'ability of their own,.

which i think would be kinda cool, to travel with a phantom fleet...perhaps attend an opera or two.

though as is the Holograms seem to do nothing practical. so i thought i'd inquire an suggest a potential alternative which has no doubt been brought about before.

They're a weightless block with negligible power use and no crew requirements used for design purposes.

Tons of options for those interested in the aesthetic side of things

They are also useful as filler blocks to put in the inside of your ship designs to allow further customization and upgrades during your playthrough.

While it has been a while since i played, this is what you used to also be able to do with them:

- Place turrets on them if made with the right tier material

- Extend docking range since they count towards the ship size, without fear of crashing into things. F ex if you create a very long hologram pole in from of your ship, the tip of that pole then counts as the front of your ship, and when that gets in docking range, so does the rest of your ship even though you may be far from the station you want to dock with.

- Make flashy signs or markers to tell your stations apart from afar

They do extend docking range, I have a ship in the workshop with huge holographic wings- they definitely count toward dock distance.
